 宣威火腿，中华三大名腿之一，以其色泽红润，味道咸甜适中可口而闻名天下。宣威火腿之所以有今天，应该说，浦在廷先生有着不可磨灭的功绩。1909年，他筹组“宣和火腿有限公司”。1917年，鉴于宣威火腿支大色差、不便携带等情况，他创造性地开发宣威火腿罐头产品，派人出国学技术并购进机器，于1918年以“云南宣和火腿罐头有限公司”的商标，投产火腿罐头，一度使宣和火腿罐头名声大震，远销海内外。创业十年，正是中国社会天翻地覆之年。外力入侵，军阀混战，官府盘剥，交通中断，加之各种经营中的问题，1920年，宣和火腿罐头公司破产。第一次破产后，浦在廷并不就此罢休。1921年，他重新自办“大有恒”商号，用“浦在廷兄弟食品罐头公司”的招牌，生产火腿罐头，以背水一战的决心，闯过重重难关，终于再造辉煌。1923年，广州举办全国地方名特产品赛会，火腿罐头荣获金奖，孙中山特为火腿罐头题字———“食德饮和”，宣威火腿罐头从此名扬天下。然而好景不长，1925年，由于支持孙中山革命，浦在廷随滇军东下广州，任驻粤滇军军需官。由于滇军杨希闵等人阴谋反叛，以贪污之名，将浦在廷开除军籍并将其入狱，同时席卷其全部经营所得。浦在廷第二次破产。出狱后，浦在廷重新返乡，从四川赊布销售，集资重办“大有恒”火腿罐头业务，并从此一直将公司经营到1949年。今天，浦在廷创办的公司仍是宣威地区的骨干国有企业。
