摘　要

   《了不起的盖茨比》不论在思想还是在艺术方面都是菲茨杰拉德最优秀的作品。这部作品也是菲茨杰拉德一生经历的写照。在这部作品中，作者刻画了美国所谓的“爵士乐时代”追求金钱和享乐的潮流，并以冷静的笔触反思了社会现实和浮华表面下蕴藏的精神危机和“美国梦”理想的破灭。
范文从作者和小说人物分析着手，通过对《了不起的盖茨比》的写作背景，作者自身的经历、故事的主要内容、“美国梦”在不同历史背景下的内涵、及盖茨比之梦的破灭等多方面的分析和解剖,深刻地揭示了“美国梦”的形成、发展和最终破灭。

Abstract

      The Great Gatsby is the best work of Fitzgerald in both thought and art. It is also the reflection of Fitzgerald’s life. In the novel, the writer describes the American tide of pursuing money and enjoyment in Jazz Age, and makes introspection of the spirit crisis which exists in the reality and ostentation and the disillusionment of American Dream.
This paper focuses on the analysis of the author and the figures in the novel. It aims to reveal the formation, development and disillusionment of American Dream through the analysis of the novel’s writing background and plot, the author’s experience, the connotation of American Dream in different historic backgrounds and the disillusionment of Gatsby’s American Dream.
