ABSTRACT

Repetition is a common rhetorical device. It is used in many fields, not only in poem, speech, but also in essay, novel and songs. It has various kinds. Most of songs use Repetition. The present studies are seldom about the Repetition in songs. Thus, the Repetition in the songs is worth studying. The study adopted mixed methods both qualitative and quantitative data analysis. The study compared the frequency of the use of each kind of Repetition in Chinese and English songs. Then it analyzed the differences and similarities of them and tried to explore the reasons of the differences and similarities. The discoveries of this study are Immediate Repetition is used more in English songs than in Chinese songs because of the different popular music style in different cultures. Three most frequently used kinds of Repetition are Immediate Repetition, Anaphora and Epistrophe in Chinese and English songs. At the end of songs, Epistrophe is probably used to emphasize the emotion both in Chinese and English songs.

摘  要

重复是一种常见的修辞手段。它被应用在很多领域，不仅有诗歌、演讲等体裁，还包括文章、小说和歌曲。它有各种各样。大多数的歌曲使用重复。目前很少有研究歌曲重复修辞的现象，因此这方面的研究具有一定的意义。研究采用了定性和定量分析的混合方法。研究比较了各种类型重复修辞在中文歌曲和英文歌曲的使用频率。然后通过分析他们的差异和相似之处，并试图探索差异的原因所在。本研究发现：连续重复在英语歌曲中使用的频率较高。因为中英的文化差异，所以流行音乐风格反映不同的文化，也具有一定差异性。在中文和英文歌曲中，有三种最常用的重复修辞，即连续重复、首语重复和尾语重复。在中英文歌曲结尾使用尾语重复的目的是强调情感。
