On Value of Love in Pride and Prejudice

Abstract

“Pride and Prejudice” is a famous novel written by Jane Austen, who is a great female writer completing a lot of significant works. “Pride and Prejudice” is a literary work characterized by marriage and love, especially the cold society. As a result, the novel influences most people all over the world, hence, and the arguments on this work among scholars are never stopped. This work will study on it from the perspective of literature and sociology to reveal the different characters’ values of love. Therefore, the marriage situations and the values of love are analyzed in detailed by reviewing the previous literary materials and understanding the novel in accordance with the fresh standpoints mentioned above. In the paper, Jane Austen’ s background is discussed to show her motivation of writing this novel. “Pride and Prejudice” actually is not only a novel describing the marriage relationships with different purposes, but criticizing the dark society. In the study, four marriages in the novel are the key body what have to be analyzed and concluded carefully. This paper is hoped to be a useful literary material to those who want to profoundly understand the “Pride and Prejudice” in the future.
