Abstract

Pride and prejudice is one of the most popular of Jane Austen's novels, first published in 1813. That specific history time decided that people at that time took money and social status much more seriously, even on their marriage. The novel revolves around the Bennett’s daughters centrally, especially Elizabeth and Jane who are being courted by different men who are wealthy, and a marriage to any of them is seen as a way for the women to have any chance of a prosperous life. In this essay, the marriage cases of most characters in the novel we taken as typical to analyze how money influenced their matrimonial value orientation. Firstly, I will analyses mainly four marriages in Pride and Prejudice. Then this essay will point out four different matrimonial value orientation in this novel. The fourth chapter will discusses some realistic significance of Pride and Prejudice. Last but not least, I will draw the conclusion that what can we take inspiration from Pride and Prejudice.
