On the Translation of Idioms

Abstract

The idiomatic phrase is equal to the phrase that people use frequently language in the world that had long and splendid history large quantities of idiom. They form regular phrases and short sentences through long use and refinement in the development of language. The idiomatic phrases contain varied cultural information, embody a lot of cultural feature, and cultural background. The idiomatic phrases contain varied cultural information, embody a lot of cultural feature, and cultural background. Due to linguistic and cultural diversity, exact equivalence in the translation of idioms is very hard to achieve. According to the different recourses and characteristics of idioms, we should properly adopts six methods on how to translate idioms by giving specific examples of translating idioms as omission, amplification, literal translation, free translation, back translation and borrowing.
