Abstract

In order to attract the reader, the headline should be made colorful and interesting. The writers usually use a lot of linguistic features in headline. 

This paper tries to analyze the news headline of USA Today from the rhetorical perspective，such as Simile and metaphor, personification, pun, metonymy, irony, antithesis, and so on. These rhetorical tactics not only effectively convey the information but also makes the news headlines sound and particular. 

Thus the study could help readers make better understanding of rhetoric in headline to get better understanding of the news, and help reader to save time to read news what they interest.
