On the analysis of the translation of rhetorical devices and semantic functions in I have a dream

Abstract :The speech I have a dream of Martin Luther king has long been regarded as a classic. The profusion use of rhetorical devices has produced enormous linguistic attractiveness. In addition to the enhancement of language expressiveness and embellishment ,rhetorical devices have semantic functions and can convey abundant social and cultural information. Translation is the recreation of language. The quality of translation directly determines whether the glamour of rhetorical devices and their semantic meanings can be embodied. The thesis discusses the translation techniques employed in the translation of rhetorical devices in the speech and their semantic functions ,so as to know how to use proper skills to reproduce the rich semantic meanings contained in the rhetorical devices. Rhetoric translation and research will help to realize the difference in English and Chinese languages, a better understanding of translation skills and theory, and put them into practice, improve their ability of translation and translation appreciation ability. In this paper, \"I have a dream\" in rhetoric translation research allows us to understand how to use the appropriate translation skills to reappearance original text rhetoric and social significance.

 内容提要：马丁路德金的I have a dream 一直被认为是英语演讲中的经典之作，其演讲中运用了大量的修辞格，并产生了巨大的语言魅力。修辞格除了用来提高语言表达效果，起修饰作用外，还有表达语义的功能，传递丰富的社会文化信息。翻译是语言艺术的在创作。翻译的好坏直接关系到能否再现原文的修辞魅力以及所传递的信息。本文将探讨演讲中修辞格的翻译技巧及语义功能，以了解如何运用恰当的翻译技巧来再现修辞所包含的丰富语义。而研究修辞的翻译就有助于体会英汉两种语言的不同，更好的认识翻译技巧与理论，并把它们付诸实践，提高自身的翻译能力与翻译鉴赏能力。本文对《我有一个梦想》中修辞翻译的研究可以让我们明白怎样运用恰当的翻译技巧来再现原文修辞的风采及传递的社会意义。
