Abstract

    Usually, a Charter Party has two kinds of types: Voyage-Charter-Party and Time-Charter-Party. In international business, a Charter Party is very vital. So a good translation of a Charter Party is important to the smooth going of an international trade. Since a Charter Party belongs to the group of legal instruments, it is necessary to know the characters of contracts and terms of a Charter Part. This paper aims at introducing strategies of the translation of a Charter Party. Firstly, this paper introduces the terms of the two types of a Charter Party. Then, it is the explanation of language features of a Charter Party terms, including repetition, formality, synonyms and archaic words. Based on these features, four translation strategies are introduced, including conversion, sequential method, backformation and division. This part is the most difficult in this paper. Therefore, many examples of sentences extracted from a Charter Party are used to make it clear.
