从《傲慢与偏见》谈婚姻与金钱的关系

 Abstract

Pride and Prejudice is one of the most famous novels written by the British realistic novelists Jane Austen in 1813. There are four couples described in novel and they get marry with different aim finally. From description, we can find that Jane Austen’s idea and the value orientation about marriage, and find one point for marriage four couples is the same, which money is played a vital role in their choices. From different description of four couples, we find that the author thinks it is unhealthy to get married for money and for social status, indeed improper to get married for money and social status. By description of love and marriage between Darcy and Elizabeth, we know that love is core of marriage, but money is just substantial guarantee and supplement for a happy marriage. We have to calculate money in marriage but we could not marry for money. How much money the person has is not the only criterion to choose marriage since money is not prerequisite, but people are prerequisite and are the subjects of marriage. Only when people in marriage are harmonious, people can feel happy and their marriage is good and meaningful. Money helps marriage happier.
