The novel is about the protagonist Holden, who has been kicked out from the school four times. He is afraid to go home and is wandering alone in the New York City. The adventure experiences show Holden’s rebellion and family relationship. He cherishes friendship, sympathize strangers. He hope to be a catcher which proves himself as a pursuer of pure love. However, he is a coward in real life, and compromise to difficulties, obey to reality. Finally he find out his way to be accepted by society. This paper tries to analyze Holden’s positive and negative characters, and then gives guidelines to adolescent teenager’s growing. Adolescent period is an indispensable part for teenagers growing up. Holden is a sample around us, the most important thing is to learn from Holden and lead our actual life. Societies, parents and schools should give teenagers a healthy growing environment for their positive characters.
