  Abstract   

      Poetry is an old traditional literary form. book of songs, Songs of Chu, poetry of the Tang dynasty and Chinese Song Poems, as well as classical poetry and romantic poetry of Britain are colorful treasures in the development of the world’s literature. the translations attracts numerous translators at all time all over the world. The image is the soul of poetry, it plays an important role in Chinese-English translation of poetry. In the process of poetry translation, the image translation is of vital importance for the understanding of poetry. This paper introduced the definition of image and analyzed the image’s effects for poetry translation by quoting three english versions of Li Shang-yin’s Untitled from Xu Yuan-chong, Wang Yu-shu, Yang Xian-yi and Dai Nai-die. It also discussed the manipulation of image in poetry translation, then explained the significance of image understanding in poetry translation.
