Abstract

    In the current society, the film watching has become one of the recreational activities for wide audience. The film is the carrier of cultures. That is, the cultures are disseminated effectively via this carrier. The producers clarify thoughts, record history, transmit cultures and guide direction through this carrier. The civic value and public awareness in the current society are expressed through films. Those common public life characteristics are the reflection of some aspects in public culture. The film is best way for culture dissemination. Those Hollywood films are playing the role of American culture disseminators in the whole world, who are the daring vanguard to promote American spirit and universal value. Concerning the contents of individualism value in American culture, the American scholar Sam held that it shall include autonomous motivation, free choices, self-reliance, respect others, personal freedom and respect of privacy etc. However, in the Chinese traditional culture, individualism is closer to egoism, which belongs to non-recognized value. The western individualism can be traced back to renaissance, which is related to humanism. Hence, it would definitely be recognized and respected by American people. Individualism is the soul of American culture. Therefore, the correct understanding on American individualism can help us to know better about the American cultures.
