The summary of Pride and Prejudice

   The novel Pride and Prejudice is written by Jane, which include completed human relationship and different values. Pride and Prejudice gave us a lot of surprises, the people in the story loved money very much with a abnormal attitude, such as Bannet and her five daughters. The poor lived in the bottom of the society in the situation of bourgeois society. The love between Elizabeth and Darcy is the main content of the novel. The readers get different values of love and marriage by understanding the humanity, because the author wrote it well. Five couples with different life and results. As a result, many scholars have studied the novel of Pride and Prejudice, and they obtained some achievements.

(2)Present Research at Home

   In China, Pride and Prejudice is a well-known novel to the youth and students. Therefore, a lot of scholars would like to study it. The scholars, Feifei Pei and Changle Fu etc, showed their thought in the paper of Jane Austen’s Views on Marriage in Pride and Prejudice. They wrote that: “Many people simply regard Pride and Prejudice as a love story, but in my opinion, this book is an illustration of the society at that time.” In a way, they thought that the values of love were decided by the social situation. Another researcher, Xiaolin Huang, also studied the kinds of marriage in the novel, especially Elizabeth and Mary, she suggested that Elizabeth and Mary were much alike in many aspects, but also quite different in their response to the same events, which reflected their attitudes to love and marriage. Finally, her conclusion was that the love should be based on feeling, not money or reason, and that was the true and pure love. In addition, Xueqing Wang and Yan Liu analyzed the problem on feminism. Both of them thought that the author described women as what they really were and advocated a new idea of love and marriage. The greedy and vanity perhaps were the main factors letting women give true love up and choose the rich guys. Other scholars studied this novel and reported many papers, and we will discuss them in the paper.

Present Research Abroad

    In foreign countries, it is different from Chinese researchers. The foreign researchers prefer to study the writing techniques of expressing the values of love. Such as Kenneth Mikalsen and Sigrid Solhaug did, they suggested that the values of love were described clearly and truly by the author in their paper. What made the people’s values so abnormal was the humanity and society. As a result, Kenneth Mikalsen and Sigrid Solhaug insisted that the author’ s vivid and compelling description showed us the different love among five couples, although these couples married to each for different purposes. Of course, besides the writing techniques, they concluded that the marriage should be the production of love or feeling. However, Bennet married her daughters to the Rich only for statues and money.

The Present Achievements

As mentioned above, most of present researches criticized the abnormal attitudes to love, as well as the people who regard the money and statues as the goals. In fact, these researches have analyzed Pride and Prejudice clear both on the people’s characters and values. Therefore, the present researches provide us profound understanding about what the true love really are. In addition, through these researches, they present us the dark society, which causes the incorrect values of love. By reading the present materials, they really give many achievements. However, these achievements underline the people’s characters and marriage situation. Few of them discussed the relation between love and the humanity, and the reasons of abnormal values of love based on social background schematically. As a result, in this work I will analyze love in Pride and Prejudice based on another perspective and writing techniques. And this paper will give a clear relation between love and humanity.
