The Cultural Differences of Table Manners Between China and British---开题报告

I、Literature Review  

  With the pace of China's reform and opening up, international communication is increasing, the difference between Chinese and Western etiquette culture is more and more exposed, the impact of this difference is not to be ignored, we need to understand the differences in these rituals before the integration of Chinese and Western etiquette.

  First, the food culture has become a very important part of the international exchange with the international exchange more and more frequently. Qu Hong(2001.01) said in her book that the differences in diet and differentiation between China and the West are very obvious. This paper analyzes the reasons for the differences between Chinese and Western food culture, and deeply understand the differences between Chinese and Western cultures, which is of great significance for the exchange of Chinese and Western cultures, which is conducive to the integration of the world culture.

  Second, food culture is a very important part of national culture, different countries and ethnic groups in the diet culture show their own unique, due to the different national cultural psychology, Chinese and Western food culture there is a great difference. Liu Shufang(2001.02) mentiond that China is one of the oldest countries in the world, the Chinese food culture is a long history, rich in content, since ancient times, with the regional differences of the passage of time and vast territory, China has gradually formed the Shandong, Sichuan, Jiangsu and four Cantonese cuisine and have their own characteristics, their production methods, taste and dishes varied, amazing. And the west to Europe and the United States as the representative, its culture also has a long history, the Western diet culture in the cooking, although not China pay attention to, but their dining etiquette, dining utensils and other aspects are also rich and colorful. The main reasons of the differences in the western food culture and explore the formation of these differences are important practical significance, which is conducive to our deeper understanding of the differences between Chinese and Western cultures and their differences.

  Besides, Most Westerners like soft drink if they will drive home. Paul Norbury(2006.09) describe in his book that many of them drink white or red wine with the food.When drinking to someone's health,you raise your glasses,but the glasses should not touch.The custom of toasting in some parts of China is to finish the drink at once,but Westerners usually take only a sip.For drinking during a dinner,the best advice is never to drink too much.

  Table manners change over time.They follow the fashion of the day. Beside, table manners are only important at formal dinner parties. If you're not sure what to do ,you can always follow your hosts. Although good manners always make you look good, you do not need to worry about all these rules while having dinner with your friends or family.
