Back ground and Central idea

Back ground about the translation 

As China's diplomatic status continues to rise in the world, Chinese culture and world culture have extensive exchanges. The century is definitely the golden age of translation. China today needs professional translators more than ever as it has carried out all-round and multi-level exchanges with all parts of the world. Translation scale and quality are further improved, subject matter is further expanded and forms are more diverse. In terms of theory, we have also begun to explore the establishment of a unique translation system in China. he research results of modern linguistics and other disciplines gradually penetrate into other translation fields, especially the recent ten years.

The central idea between the culture and translation

If people from different countries with different culture want to understand each other, they need to convert the essence of these cultures from one language to the others. Eugene A. Nida who is the famous American translator have said in book—“The Theory and Practice of Translation” that translating consists in reproducing in the receptor language the closest natural equivalent of the source language message, first in terms of meaning and secondly in terms of style.

Translation has always been the focus of research by experts at home and abroad. In1990, Translation History Culture a Sourcebook which proposed a cultural turn of translation studies at first. The research on translation theory has caused violent repercussions. 

No language translation in the world can without a specific culture, any language will react the human culture. Not only historical culture, traditional habits, but also the religious beliefs, ways of thinking, values, etc. of the nation. Only by truly understanding the culture of both sides of the language so that we better achieve the effect of translation, rather than just changing the shape of the text.

Comparing the differences in cultural between China and Britain that affect translation, to illustrate the importance of understanding culture to translation. The thesis will be divided into five aspects to show it: ways of thinking; manners of custom; literary quotation; religious tradition; values and ideas of beauty.
