Research into Jane’s Personality in Jane Eyre---开题报告

Jane Eyre is a masterpiece of the famous British novelist Charlotte Bronte. It is discovered that the analysis of Jane Eyre’s theory has develop into a very popular point among the study of literature. Since the publication of Jane Eyre, it has been very popular and has caused a great sensation all over the world. What’s more, both Chinese and foreign literary critics have been paying a lot of attention to Jane Eyre, making it a hot topic of literary criticism both at home and abroad.

1. Critical Researches into Jane Eyre Abroad

Jane Eyre was firstly published in London in October 1847. Since its publication, the novel immediately caused a sensation in Britain and was sold out in three months. At the same time, many critics debated on the novel’s theme and began to interpret works from different angles. The autobiographical novel Jane Eyre (1847) of Charlotte Bronte (1816-1855), is the most popular and one of the most important novels in Victorian times.

In western countries, Joyce Card Oates indicated in the third of the novel’s “Introduction” that before Jane Eyre was published in 1847, not lack the image of rebel women. However, like Jane Eyre, as humble, ordinary, who have no weak against powerful patriarchal society, which has been treated as an unprecedented.

In China, since the passage “Tessie theory of female novelist” in Women’s Magazine firstly introduced Bronte’s novels to Chinese readers in 1917, Jane Eyre was accepted by the public. Then, the novel has been adapted into a movie, operas and many other versions, becoming the enduring classics in China. At the same time, many Chinese critics also launched a debating about the multiple views of theme and characters in Jane Eyre.

In domestic magazines, Guo Xiaomei has published a passage “A Bisexual Consubstantial Women --- An Analysis of the Image Jane Eyre” in Journal of Sichuan Foreign Language Institute. In this article, Guo Xiaomei pointed out: “The image Jane Eyre has the features of a gentle woman, but is more of a male feature such as strong, brave and active. In many roles, she takes on the subjectivity of active status. Jane Eyre reflected the feminism about to realize the ideal of equality of men and women. She encourages women to pursue equality, freedom, an independent living and to hold a more positive attitude towards life.”

He Jie, in the magazine Gansu Education, issued “the Starting Point of Self-esteem, Self-respect and Motivation --- An Analysis of the Characteristics of Jane Eyre”. She reported in the article: Jane is one of the representatives of women in the petty bourgeoisie, who has a strong personal rebellious character. It embodies the main thought of enlightenment “freedom, equality, fraternity” in the 19th century. The reason why she had won the love from her host Mr. Rochester is because she has rich and exquisite feelings towards the world and her own strong personalities. This kind of characteristics holds up her entire spiritual world, so that she is strong enough to pursue happiness.

Both domestic and foreign scholars have a deep research on the characteristics of Jan Eyre. On this basis, the thesis focuses on the further analyzing of the features of Jane Eyre, whose protagonist is morally instructive, mentally integrated and socially harmonious.
