1. Research background  

We all know China is one of the several biggest import & export country in the world, and the international trading accounts for large proportion of the whole business activities in China, especially after China entering into WTO (World Trading Organization) successfully and become a member of WTO. International business activities have become more and more frequently between China and overseas countries, such as introduction of technology, international trading, international finance, international transportation, international education, international business negotiations, and so on. Absolutely, the proper communication language can not be ignored in any business activities. For example, one person from Chinese company and the other one comes from an English speaking country,both of them would like to do business with each other, but they can not communicate with their own language smoothly, translation will be adopted in this situation. An official and professional communication will be the foundation of successful businesses. Business English and translation of business English are playing important role in daily business communication environment and will work as a carrier of international business communication have been becoming particularly important in these days, person from different language will use this kind of ESP (English for specific purposes) language to discuss quotation and quality, approve design and drawings, confirm payment terms and shipment schedule, and negotiate and solve issues during production and even to establish business relationship and keep good cooperation with each other, and ect.

2. Research points

(1) Business English

Business English is used in business communication environment and it’s a kind of special language which for specific purposes, it is also the variant of social function of ordinary English,which is supplying extraordinary service for business activities. Business English is a application of English in business behavior, and also contains a variety of business events. We all know business English is from ordinary English and it’s also based on ordinary English. Therefore, business English has linguistic features of ordinary English, but business English is the integration of business knowledge and English at the same time, so it has it’s own unique characteristics.

(2) Translation of Business English 

Business English translation involves the understanding of the nature of English and Chinese,and also the principles of using this two languages. The special requirement of business English is need to put those knowledge and understanding into specific business communication environment. The perfect translation will make target language equate with source language, including same information,same style,same emotion, same view point......, but different translation skills and principles will be up to the translator’s knowledge,thinking, understanding,level of theory, work experience, life experience, professionalism,cultural background and so on. Many scholars and experts have done a lot of research on translation, and the translation of business English, and achieved a large number of new theories and perspectives. Such as EuguneA.Nida’s “functional equivalence”, Peter Newmark’s “meaning is complicated, many leveled, a “network of relations”..., Jackobson’s “the informative function”...We should study those theories carefully and understand their ideas, and select proper methods in detailed business activities to translate business information (files, documents, contracts, agreements, instructions , payment terms...).

In a word, business English is a very important part in international business activities, proper and professional translation will be serious factor during business communication, we should keep studying the predecessors’ perspectives and combine those with business knowledge and business background, in order to supply perfect communication service. 

3. Author’s expectation

The author of this paper is a international PM (projects management) manager, he concerns international business activities everyday in his daily work, so he understand the importance of business English and the translation of business English completely. The author collects lots of information from internet and books which relates translation and business English, and also throw his heart in predecessors’ achievements to absorb nutrition of research. The author will give his translation skills and strategies of business English after analyzing the general translation methods and the features of business English together, and also his work experience, in order to supply a professional, practical,effective skills and strategies to those who need it for reference and learning.
