The purpose of this project and the research significance
This research is oriented to the generalization of the principles for C-to-E translation of travel textual materials and in an attempt to offer some suggestions to the improvement of Wuzhen’s tourism publicizing work related to textual translation in English. This dissertation does not touch on the researches of documentary films, slides and Video TV shows etc., so that it is suggested that further researches may be done in all tourist texts, videos and guide’s interpretations based on survey and theoretical analysis.
Comparative Study on the Texts of  Chinese and English Introductions of Scenic Spots The purpose of information and attraction can be attained by both English and Chinese introductions of scenic spots. However, their disparities in language and text styles, information capacity and transmission, and textural patterns are prevailing due to differences in culture, thinking and language. A comparative study is conducted in this paper on the Chinese and English introductions of scenic spots in terms of linguistic differences and informative functions.
C-to-E translation of travel textual materials is a purposeful and communicative activity, whose success mainly relies on the reception and response of the readers. Aesthetics of Reception, advocating the central position of readers, sheds much enlightenment on C-to-E translation of travel textual materials. Firstly, it shifts the focus of translation research to readers through the proposal of the central position of readers. Then, it places higher expectation and demands on translators: translators should pay more attention to “Two Receptions” in the process of translation (translators’ reception of the original text and target readers’ reception of the translation), give readers sufficient consideration in language, culture, psychology and so on (it is reflected in the choice of translation strategy and principle). Therefore, based on Aesthetics of Reception and related translation theories, this dissertation carries out an analysis of the translation problems and their causes, and proposed the revised translations from the perspective of target readers. Meanwhile, the dissertation attempts to bring forth some feasible and practical translation strategies for C-to-E translation of travel textual materials and illustrate them with ample examples, such as “Read”, “Translate” and “Write”, “Adapt-Borrow-Create”, domestication and foreignization, annotation, amplification and omission etc.

Outline of the thesis
Chapter 1 Introduction
This part mainly gives a brief introduction to the present situation and the significance of the translation of travel textual materials in Guilin, expounds the purpose and theoretical foundation of the research, and outlines the general structure of this dissertation
Research Background 
Along with the arrival of the 21st century, modern tourism becomes one of the most important sections in global economy, and its impact on a country’s economy and foreign-oriented exchanges, and enrichment of culture is much stronger than ever before.
Research Purpose     
The major functions of tourist materials are to arouse great interest of readers through vivid description and adequate information to go traveling, to make their trips more pleasant and delightful, and to publicize brilliant Chinese culture.
Data Collection and Research Method     
The dissertation focuses on explaining how Aesthetics of Reception as well as related translation theories acts as a guide to C-to-E translation of travel textual materials, and on that basis, further working out feasible and effective approaches and strategies for C-to-E translation of travel textual materials. The study is carried out mainly based on the methodology of data collection and theoretical and practical analysis.
