   Communication is an important way of expressing yourself because it exists different ways of expression and so different kind of communication depending on the culture you belong to. The way of communicating will not be the same as other countries and it is important to know some values of other cultures. That is why cross-cultural communication is an essential exercise to do; a person who come from a certain country does not necessarily get the same ideas about time, death, identity, as another one from a different country because each person has its own identity . But how people from different cultures can communicate with each other without misunderstanding?
  Cross-cultural communication involves three main factors: 1.Cognitive elements:cultural values, world view(religion), social organization(family and country). 2.Speech language. Ralph Waldo Emerson said, Language is the archives of history.   3.Nonverbal language, which contain body language(body movement, facial expressions, touch,and so on), concept of time, space usage. These three factors form the unique elements of culture, but cause the barriers in cross-cultural communication.
  I will focus on the importance of speech language in cross-cultural communication, especially what problems shall we pay attention to in the second language learning.
  It is generally known that language is the carrier and container of culture. So far there are still about 6500 languages left in the world. Unfortunately, in the world, 96 percent of the population uses only 5 percent of its language, but 95 percent of language is only used by 4 percent of the population. On the face of it, the 95 percent of language by 4 percent of the population is gradually dying out. Language is the carrier of culture, a language is a record of a kind of culture, and represents a nation. On the contrary, the disappearance of a language means a kind of culture step down from the stage of history. Language without nationality, even if the nation exists, it just exists in name only. It is a very terrible phenomenon. Because no mutual competition and attraction between culture, culture can’t be brought innovation, prosperity and development.
  The object of cross-culture communication is mutual understanding. Respect each other’s culture is the premise of understanding. Learn more about each other’s culture, the first thing is learn each other’s language. To master a foreign language, people must put in a lot of effort, especially in cross cultural communication.
  What is the main barrier in cross cultural communication? How can we overcome the obstacles in learning second language? First of all, the limitation of personal ability; Secondly, the constraint of scene; Thirdly, the barriers of historical tradition.
  I will analyze those factors above all in learning second language in cross cultural communication. I hope the study can make some contribution in the direction.
