“Children learn English in China”, which has been regarded as an attractive scene in English education, has become a hot issue in China these years. Due to the increasing globalization and internationalization, foreign language is playing a more important role in the development of each country and become the essential tool for people to survive in the great competitive society. Therefore, children English education draws social concerns and learning English at a younger age becomes a fashion. For instance, there are an increasing number of bilingual kindergartens which are favored by anxious parents; English training schools are prosperously organized one after another recently. However, during the process of implementation, several potential problems have appeared and become obstacles to the development of children English education in China. So the present situation of English education in the kindergarten is worthy of concerning. For instance, parents’ and teachers’ vague understanding of children English education, the boring and inefficient teaching methods, the impractical learning activities for children in kindergarten, obscure standards of cultivating competent teachers, English is regarded as an important subject in the Chinese curriculum, but there still exist some obvious drawbacks in the teaching processes. Many people realize the shortcomings of current teaching method, they just fear changing it. The change aroused great attention to and concern about English teaching methods in China. Likewise, to improve English teaching and learning in China, people must be courageous enough to change themselves. If students are bored with endless grammatical exercises, teachers can put more emphasis on oral skills and so on.
Kindergartens all over the world offer the opportunity of second language learning, usually of English language. Of course, the content, preschool lesson themes, and ways of transferring knowledge based on fun activities are adapted to kindergarten age and social environment. Methods, techniques and tools are numerous; international kindergartens normally use language immersion as the main teaching method, and most national state and private kindergartens offer the possibility of second language learning using different foreign language teaching methods, it depends on the country. Some people are not sure whether it is right for their children to start learning a foreign language at such an early age (3-6), and some believe that we are imposing too much on them by asking them to do so, but this is really wrong. It is already scientifically proven that children at this age actually have a strong potential to acquire almost an infinite number of new information, especially when second language learning is concerned. Moreover, it has been proven that children who learn a second language at a very early age (compared to those who don't), have more active brain spheres and later have less difficulties in school subjects other than English.
