Through in-depth and extensive research, the current situation of this paper is mainly reflected in:

    1. Status of Foreign Research:

Foreign studies of English proverbs have a long history and rich research results. Their research focuses on:

(1) Cultural image research. The cultural image is a kind of cultural symbol which embodies the wisdom and history and culture of a nation, has a relatively fixed and unique cultural connotation, and has rich cultural meaning. Julie Lovell (2009) suggests that "cultural images in proverbs are particularly representative and vivid in reflecting the cultural identity of cultural images."

(2) Research on National Characteristics. Proverbs of the national characteristics, in fact, the history of all nationalities, cultural traditions and social life of the specific reflection. Such as Eugene A. Nina (1975): "For a truly successful proverb translation, it is more important to be familiar with the two cultures than to master the two languages, because the proverb words are meaningful only in the cultural context in which they are active.

 (3) The origin of history. The earliest English proverb is 1545 John Heywood's "English Proverb Dialogue", followed by David Cerguson's "Scottish Proverb" published in 1614. The study of early British proverbs focused on the collection of information and the source of research and so on, one of its purpose is to focus on practical and educational significance, mostly for missionaries and priests, used in daily life to persuade the world.

2. Status of domestic research:

(1) General cultural differences. (2009). "From the English and Chinese proverbs to see the cultural differences between China and the West", Yuan Fei (2010). "From the English and Chinese proverbs in the contrast between the Chinese and Western culture Differences "and so on.

(2) A Comparative Study of Concrete Cultural Images. Such as plant proverbs, Wang Yan (2012). "From the Chinese and English plant terms to see its unique cultural metaphor"; such as totem, Huang Ting, Tang Hao (2007). "From the 'dragon' But there is not much research between English and Chinese animal proverbs and cultural differences, only Qiao Tinghui (2012). "Cross-cultural studies of English and Chinese animal proverbs".

In conclusion, Foreign research was earlier, but no comparative study was conducted. While domestic scholars focus on the macroscopic study of cultural differences, not a lot for micro-research. Therefore, this article will be from the perspective of contrast to the study of Chinese and English proverbs, so as to more profound understanding of the similarities and differences between national culture.
