Jane Eyre is the representative work of Charlotte Bronte, a famous British writer in the 19th century. The protagonist Jane Eyre described in Jane Eyre has obvious duality in character, that is, Jane Eyre has both her true, kind,and strong rebellious side.At the same time, they also lack self-confidence, feel inferior from time to time, and pursue love while maintaining the old and conservative traditional view of marriage.However, it is precisely because of this dual character that Jane Eyre has become an advanced woman and a representative figure with enduring charm in the history of western literature. Her characters are plump and more authentic.At the same time, it also reflects the complexity of human nature and is worthy of our discussion and research.The other character described in Jane Eyre, Jane Eyre's aunt, runs through the whole story of Jane Eyre, in sharp contrast to Jane Eyre's character.The aunt’s characters  are selfish, vicious and stubborn, adding drama and authenticity to the story.

2. Research Status

Jane Eyre is a well-known novel.In the middle of the 19th century, Charlotte Bronte, a great British pioneer of female existentialism, created her masterpiece Jane Eyre, which caused a stir in the literary world at that time. Even today, this novel still exudes infinite charm.In the prologue, development, climax and ending of the work, the heroine's rebellious, free, equal, self-esteem and pure personality, at the same time, she feels inferior and succumb to the traditional marriage form are the main themes of each key chapter, and these themes are fully revealed in the heroine's love view. They are just like the stars above the dark clouds, shining brightly and illuminating the road of women's pursuit of love.Over the years, many scholars at home and abroad have made various and multi-angle analyses of this work, especially of the main character. The research is as follows: At home, Guo Xiaomei said: "Although Jane Eyre has the characteristics of gentleness and obedience of women, she has more of the same characteristics as men, such as being strong, brave and active. Moreover, in many roles, she has realized the exchange of roles with the male master and assumed an active and subjective position.Jane Eyre embodies the ideal of feminism to realize equality between men and women. She has played a role in encouraging women to pursue equality, freedom and independence, and to realize their own dominant position with a more positive attitude towards life.Just like Wang Wenhui, it is reported in the article that this article has analyzed and studied the rebellious spirit of Jane Eyre, the heroine of Jane Eyre, from two aspects of social resistance and awakening of female consciousness, and has analyzed the current social situation and the situation of women in contemporary China. The purpose is to inspire Chinese women to cherish and maintain their female consciousness of self-respect, self-reliance and self-improvement by using the rebellious spirit of Jane Eyre.Abroad, Terry Eagleton pointed out in his book The Myth of Rights, a monograph on the Bronte sisters, that Charlotte's works have an inherent struggle between two vague and internally divided values, namely, the heroine on the one hand shows rationality, calmness, self-struggle spirit, radical resistance and rebellion;On the other hand, they are too pious, obedient and conservative, either of which can replace or transfer each other.Joyce Ka Oates pointed out in his "introduction" to the third edition of the novel: "Before the publication of Jane Eyre in 1847, although there were many images of rebellious women in English literature, it was unprecedented for" weak "women like Jane Eyre, who were humble, ordinary and helpless, to confront the powerful patriarchal society so consciously.

3. Problems

Over the years, many scholars at home and abroad have analyzed this work from many aspects and perspectives, especially the protagonist. There are also many research papers on this work, but the research on Jane Eyre's character by scholars is too single. Therefore, this paper intends to analyze the duality of the protagonist's character from many different angles based on previous studies.

4. Research objectives

I hope to take this opportunity to write this paper, on the basis of previous studies, to explore and analyze the diversity of Jane Eyre's character in the works, and to further analyze Jane Eyre's dual character characteristics.

5.Research content
