Purpose and significance of the topic:

Herman Melville (Herman Melville, 1819-1891), one of the famous American novelist, 19th century until the 1920s, he didn't discovered by American letters, the value of the novel Moby Dick published in 1851, there was no significant repercussions, by the literary value until after 1919, is recognized as one of the most symbolic novels in the world. It has been described as "a masterpiece that the reader can understand it will". A big reason moby Dick has achieved such fame seems to be symbolism. American book Reviewer Fediman pointed out that Moby Dick has multiple meanings, which urge many scholars to devote themselves to the study of Moby Dick in many aspects. The symbolic meaning of Moby Dick has been excavated. Some scholars think that Moby Dick has the metaphorical meaning of religious flavor. On the basis of previous studies, this paper starts from my perspective from the novel's theme: Moby Dick itself, characters Ahab's captain and crew, and the fishing boat Pequade. To further interpret and explore the symbolic intention and connotation of the novel interpretation.

赫尔曼·梅尔维尔(Herman Melville,1819-1891)，19世纪美国著名的小说家之一,直到20世纪20年代,他的价值才被美国文学界发现,其中1851年出版的小说《白鲸》,当时并没有重大的反响，直到1919年以后才被文学界重视，被公认为世界上最具象征意义的小说之一。并且被称为是一部“可以让读者任意理解的巨著”。《白鲸》能够获得如此声誉一个重要的原因就是它的象征意义。美国书评家费迪曼指出的，《白鲸》含义是多层的，这也促使许多学者致力于《白鲸》的多方面研究，《白鲸》的象征意义已经被挖掘出多重意义，部分学者认为白鲸据有宗教气息的隐喻涵义。本文在前人研究的基础上，以我的视角从小说的主题：白鲸本身、人物亚哈船长和船员，渔船佩奎德船号。对小说诠释的象征意向和内涵进一步的解读和探究。

Moby Dick is Melville's most representative work. It is a literary masterpiece with vivid, profound and complex meanings. Lawrence, a famous British writer, called it "a great work" and "an epic on the sea that no one can reach". Critic Richard Chase regarded Melville's Moby Dick as "the most brilliant expression of the American imagination". Since its publication in 1851, many scholars have devoted themselves to the study of Moby Dickin various aspects, and the study of its symbolic significance is enduring. Critics agree that Melville, like Hawthorne, is a master of symbolism. The study of Moby Dick by British and American critics mainly involves the aspects of race, religion, culture and genre. Few works are devoted to its symbolic meaning. Studies of its symbolic significance are scattered throughout the various reviews of the work. In China, the symbolic significance of Moby Dick has been explored in multiple ways. Some scholars believe that Moby Dick is a work full of ecological thoughts from the perspective of the relationship between human and nature, reflecting the thinking of the relationship between human and nature. Some scholars have studied its symbolic meaning from the perspectives of social ethics, religious culture and philosophy. It is a metaphor for the connotation of the relationship between the Moby Dick itself and the captain Ahab. Other studies of Moby Dick's symbolic significance include studies of Ehaber, the Sea, the Pilotus, and the whaling voyage itself. However, as far as the present situation is concerned, The symbolism is still to be studied.

《白鲸》是麦尔维尔最具有代表性的作品，是一部是一部寓意丰富、深刻、复杂的文学杰作，英国著名作家劳伦斯将其称之为“一本伟大的著作”、“一部无人能及的海上史诗”；评论家理查德·蔡斯认为麦尔维尔的《白鲸》是“美国想象力最辉煌的表达”自1851年问世以来，许多学者致力于《白鲸》的多方面研究，其象征意义的研究经久不衰。对于麦尔维尔评论家们一致认为他和霍桑一样是一位象征主义的大师。在英美评论界对《白鲸》的研究主要涉及的种族、宗教、文化以及体裁方面。很少有作品专门介绍它的象征意义。有关其象征意义的研究散布在关于该作品的不同的评^范文章中。在中国《白鲸》的象征意义已经被挖掘出多重意义，部分学者们从人和自然关系的角度、认为白鲸是一部充满生态主义思想的作品，反映了人类与自然关系的的思考；部分学者从社会伦理、宗教文化以及哲学角度对其象征意义进行了研究。隐喻了白鲸本体和船长亚哈之间关系的内涵。其他的关于《白鲸》象征意义的研究还包括对于埃哈伯、大海、皮阔得号、以及捕鲸航行本身等的研究。但就目前的状况来看，其中所包含的象征意义仍可以深入研究。
