A Game of thrones is the first chapter of A Song of Ice and Fire, Eddard Stark of the House Stark is the point of view in this chapter. This story is started by visit of king Robert Baratheon, the king came to the Winterfell is about to convince Eddard Stark to install the vocation of king’s hand, because the former king’ hand is dead and Eddard Stark is the best friend of king, also Eddard Stark want to find the secret why his nominal father’s death. Base on the situation he make the choice go with the king. With the story goes Eddard Stark dead in end of this chapter, admit the crime he didn’t committed and dishonored himself in front of the people in King’s landing.

2.Introduction

2.1 A Song of Ice and Fire 

A Song of Ice and Fire is an epic fantasy novel written by George RR Martin started in 1996. This novel is so popularity, obsessed by young and old people. George RR Martin designed a whole background for this great epic fantasy novel, the map in the imaginary world, the history of the House Stark and other great house in the imaginary world. 

2.2 Eddard Stark’s tragedy 

The tragedy of Eddard Stark is contributed by many reasons. The secret of the death of former king’s hand is the mainly reason when he decided to take the king’s hand. When he discovered the truth about formal king’s hand’s death, he found another secret about House Lannister, Cersei Lannister and Jaime Lannister is having affair, they already have three children. This is could be very embarrassing for the king. But Eddard Stark have a very good heart and he give Cersei Lannister a choice to ran out the King’s Landing, he never thought this is such a horribe mistake for him and his family afterwards.

3. An Analysis on the Reason of Eddard Stark's Tragedy

  3.1  The discovered secret of House Lannister is the mainly reason cause Eddard Stark’s death. Also destroy Eddard’s honor, integrity 

3.1.1 Catelyn Stark made a mistake of impulse to capture Tyrion Lannister

3.1.2 Eddard Stark discover the secret of House Lannister 

3.1.3 Eddard Stark have a good heart always have mercy to children and women

  3.2  Petyr Baelish is a man shouldn’t be trusted, but Eddard trust he at the most important moment

3.2.1. Petyr Baelisn is fond of Catelyn when he is young

3.2.2. Eddard Stark is always not like Petyr Baelisn

3.2.3. Petyr Baelisn has ambition to get the power in the court

  3.3 Eddard Stark’s personal disposition contribute to his tragedy

    3.3.1 Eddard Stark is a honorable man want to play game in integrity 

    3.3.2 Eddard Stark do not make concession with other people easily

    3.3.3 Eddard Stark made a series of mistake in the important time.

  3.4  Eddard Stark is lack of experience about how to play game of political struggle

3.4.1 There are no such cruel political struggles in the north 

3.4.1 Eddard Stark’s personal disposition is worked in the north

4.Conclusion

   A Song of Ice and Fire is a very good epic fantasy novel which have a completed background. Imaginary world have various things like witch, dragon, direwolf, white worker. These things are not existed in realistic world, this epic fantasy novel satisfied people’s imagination. Though in this novel people’ ugly humanity is so cruel when they play the game of political struggles, some people can’t accept the ending of Eddard Stark. Nevertheless George RR Martin described a man like Eddard Stark, a man with honor, with integrity, with mercy, with the love for his family. In this epic fantasy novel which full of sly struggler a man like Eddard Stark appeared more precious quality of humanity.
