（一）The main content of the article

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife. There are two key words in this sentence: "property" and "need". This means that a man must satisfy the premise of having a family -- having property; Need is not subjective, but objective, based on money. We can see from the opening sentence that austen's marriage is not based on love, but on money.

Why should austen, in the first place, point out that money is necessary in a marriage? This requires us to understand the social background at that time.

 Austin lived in the late 18th century and the early 19th century, when Britain was in the transition to capitalist industrialization. Although the aristocrats still enjoyed many privileges, the status of merchants was greatly improved due to economic reasons. Traditional measures of social status, based on family and lineage, have been challenged and money has become an important measure of social value. Men had absolute authority. There was no equality. Women have low social status, low education levels, few job opportunities, and low pay and discrimination even when they find a job. 

So women in austen's time saw marriage as a necessary security. Without marriage, a woman would not have an income, could not work and earn money, and could not inherit from her parents. All these factors made women keen on marriage at that time, making it closely related to money, social status and so on.

 "Pride and prejudice" is a classic representation of this. In the novel, austen describes four couples: charlotte and Collins who marry for money; Lydia and wickham, who marry for sex; Jane and bentley, who marry for morality; and, most perfectly, Elizabeth and darcy's marriage. These four couples represented several universal views of society at the time. Elizabeth's marriage is a happy and happy one. The author expresses her views on love, family and marriage mainly through her.

Austen repeatedly emphasized in the novel that love is the foundation of marriage, and marriage without love will not be happy. Lydia and wickham in pride and prejudice are married for sex, and their marriage is regarded as the most ridiculous. Austen did not directly describe how the two got together, or how they eloped, and the reader mainly learned about them through a letter.

（二）The effect of pride and prejudice

《Pride and prejudice》 is a worldwide classic by English writer Jane Austen. Under the special background of The Times, the status of money in marriage was created, and then, people's view of marriage was influenced.

The characters in the novel are endowed with typical characteristics, which fully reflects the importance of money in women's choice of marriage. Furthermore, the author also reveals that money alone is not enough in marriage, and it is more necessary for love to nourish the soil of marriage to produce beautiful flowers.

（三）For the thinking of marriage

At the same time, it emphasizes the independence and dignity of women on the marital problems.

Jane Austen humorously described different kinds of marriage relations in Pride and Prejudice. Until today, this novel is still very popular among many readers and arouses people's observation and unlimited thinking of marriage.

Review: It has been pointed out that Jane holds the view that love and marriage are associated with but not totally lie on the property and social status, the marriage which is based on the love is a true happy marriage. There are many articles to support this view. For example, one of researchers thought marriage and property and social status are interconnected, but marriage could not only depend on the property and the social status based on researching the four young couples' marriages in this novel which can be categorized into two groups according to their different marriage foundation, Simply one just like Charlotte — Collins and Lydia — Wickham is called unhappy marriage. The other one like Elizabeth —Darcy and Jane —Bingley is the opposite. “ She believed that marriage just for money was wrong, but marriage of no money was stupid.”

（四）Conclusion

During her time, Jane's view was so advanced that it was not accepted widely. Until today, it still has important influence. Austen’s views on marriage and love are also suitable for our real social. We youth should make right marriage and love views to orient our lives. There are a thousand Hamlets in a thousand people’s eyes. In a word, we can find her idea about marriage from the analysis, marriage, property and social status interconnected, but not absolutely.

Marriage shows us different things in different times. No matter how the world changes, how times change, marriage and love have always been a topic of concern and discussion. On this topic, there are different opinions. Some people believe that economic success is decisive, while others believe that love is the prerequisite. 

Marriage without love is unfortunate. Different people have different attitudes towards marriage. Jane Austen told people through the novel that only the marriage of love and economic ability is the ideal marriage. This has provided the reference value and the guidance function for the contemporary people to choose the marriage attitude.The marriage view of this work is a delicate description of money, status and love, which combine to form a happy marriage.
