The comprehensive national strength of China is continuously rising and Chinese economic growth rises to the second place in the world. Since nearly 40 years of reform and opening-up, the political, economic and cultural exchange between China and various countries in the world has increased day by day. Chinese translations play an essential role in these exchange activities and Chinese translation itself also becomes an important industry in Chinese economy. Total number of persons speaking Chinese ranks the second place in the world, which is second only to total number of persons speaking English. The number of individuals studying, working and traveling abroad from Chinese mainland also increases day by day and the demands of Chinese translation of Chinese individuals and foreign language translation of overseas Chinese individuals are increasing too. The number of persons studying, working and traveling in China also increases continuously and demands on Chinese translation services of foreign friends also increase.

Economic globalization is one of the three main dimensions of globalization commonly found in academic literature, with the two others being political globalization and cultural globalization, as well as the general term of globalization. Economic globalization refers to the free movement of goods, capital, services, technology and information. It is the increasing economic integration and interdependence of national, regional, and local economies across the world through an intensification of cross-border movement of goods, services, technologies and capital. Economic globalization primarily comprises the globalization of production, finance, markets, technology, organizational regimes, institutions, corporations, and labor. While economic globalization has been expanding since the emergence of trans-national trade, it has grown at an increased rate due to an increase in communication and technological advances under the framework of General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade and World Trade Organization, which made countries gradually cut down trade barriers and open up their current accounts and capital accounts. Economic globalization is a worldwide phenomenon wherein countries’ economic situations can depend significantly on other countries. Many allied countries would supply resources to each other that the other countries do not have. These resources can cover imported products, technology, and even human labor. One popular activity under globalization is international trade, in which products and services are exchanged between or among nations. Many countries that have abundant natural resources rely on this trading system to market their unique local products and, in turn, improve their economic state. International trade has been practiced for centuries, as evidenced by the Silk Road that connects Asia and Europe for trading purposes. One modern example of this type of trade is the toy industry, wherein many American-sold toys have the phrase “Made in China” embossed on their surface.

With the economic globalization and the china’s entering into wto, translation becomes more and more important in the international trade. Business negotiation, international conference, or doing business with foreigners all need translator. especially in the international trade. With the increasing international exchange in china, the translation market has developed rapidly, the demand for qualified application-oriented translation talent has increased rapidly in society, and a higher quality of translation is required. The application- oriented translation talent refers to talent with solid basic skills, broad knowledge, international vision, professional knowledge, and a higher overall quality. In other words, a translator is a high-level application oriented person who should possess noble moral character, a profound knowledge of foreign languages, and have proficient translation skills. Translator talent should be translation professionals with innovative spirits and a sense of social responsibility. The application-oriented translation talent should have four characteristics: practicality, applicability, adaptability, and innovation. However, at present, the number of highly qualified, application- oriented translation talents in various professional fields in china is small and cannot meet the requirements of the markets and society. Therefore, in order to satisfy the demands of society, there is an urgent task for colleges and universities to train qualified application translation talent. nowadays ,many people can speak with foreigners fluently in English in china. However ,when they talk about expertise in professional fields, they do not have enough professional knowledge. In recent years, from the employment situation of undergraduates and graduates who are engaged in translation is relatively small. The reality is that the contradiction between the cultivation of translation talent and students’career development needs and the market demand for qualified translation talent is becoming more apparent. The current situation is that what students acquire at universities is out of touch with the actual needs of the society, and there is a gap between translation talents’cultivation and the market demand.

The demand for translation talents is becoming larger and larger. And the demand for translation talents in china is gradually increasing. China‘s current prominent contradictions in the process of translation training is : on the one hand, china’s translation industry needs a large number of professional translators, on the other hand, graduates have insufficient to meet the needs of the job. That is to say, the current translation personnel training mechanism is out of line with the market. In fact, there are many reasons for this phenomenon, one of the prominent reasons is: at present, the concept of personnel training is still subject to the traditional teaching mode.

The data display that there are forty thousand professional translators and more than 3000 professional translation companies in china now. there are many people engaged in translation work in various forms in the market. But few of them are trained. The high level translator is about 5%of the total or even less. So there is a huge market for translation. And the quality of  translator need to be improved.
