As a female writer at the turn of the century，Jane Austin went through the age of British regency witnessing the evolution of Britain from the 18th century to the 19th century. She gained an insight into the changes of the times. Jane Austen, with her unique rural perspective, has a very real and minute description of the life and ideas of the middle class in English towns. She vividly depicted the image of the British squires and ladies at that time. From 1811 to 1811, Austin has published six novels. They are named sense and sensibility (1811), pride and prejudice (1831), Mansfield Park (1814), Emma (1815), Northanger Abbey (1817), and Persuasion (1817). These novels really described the life of the parish she knew. Among them, the status of women and the choice of marriage are deeply discussed. Austen's works have been popular with the readers at different times for nearly two hundred years. Austen has been regarded as a classic writer, and her works show important literary value and social significance. It is no wonder that George Henry Lewes (1817-1859), a famous British literary critic, called her "Shakespeare in prose".  Walter Scott（1771—1832）, a famous contemporary writer, admired her writing art. If a representative was found in the golden age of English novels (1813-1873), Austen was indeed a shining star in this period. In the period of gothic fiction, Austen abandoned the traditional way of writing. She cheered for realism in a humorous and ironic way. It has become an important link between romanticism and realism. Nowadays she is one of the most widely read writers in English literature. No matter how many years, her contribution to the realistic writing can not be denied, and on the history there are always the great record left by Austen.
