Literature Review

Jane Austen and Charlotte Bronte are two of the most dazzling female writers in the 19th century. Jane Austen first reflected the consciousness of feminism in her literary works. Pride and prejudice,her representative work, is considered to be the initial manifestation of women's self struggle. Bronte's Jane Eyre is a radical expression of the concept of equality between men and women, which liberates women from traditional marriage.

In Pride and Prejudice and Jane Eyre, on the one hand, in the face of economic freedom, most British women are in a passive position before marriage; On the other hand, Elizabeth and Jane Eyre, with their independent personality, have changed from passive to active by virtue of their unique personality, so as to obtain a happy marriage based on equality between men and women. Their values, love and marriage views have enlightening effects on contemporary women. At this point, women enter the society, contact with society, which indicates the further extension of the road of women's liberation.

In this paper, from the perspective of women, reveals the social status of Victorian women and the awakening of women's independent consciousness in the two novels through the analysis of the heroines Jane Eyre and Elizabeth.
