一、文献综述

The old man and the sea are by far the most influential novella in American and European literature. It played a great part in his winning the Pulizer Prize in 1953 and the 1954 Novel for Literature and confirmed his power and presence in the literary world. The old man and the sea is concise but meaningful. Ernest Hemingway once said, "the great majesty of the iceberg movement is that only one eighth of it is on the water." This is Hemingway's famous theory -- the iceberg principle. We divide the novel into three parts: the old man and the sea, the old man and the marlin, the old man and the shark. No matter when the old man in the novel can shout out the strongest voice of a hard man – but man is not made for defeat. A man can be destroyed, but not defeated. We can be as old as the old when we are in trouble in life. We don't give up, we don't give up, whether we fail or not, we still do.
