The translation of the names of scenic spots not only directly reflects the level of translators, but also affects to a certain extent whether the tourists will choose this scenic spot as the object of visit and international cultural exchange. Therefore, it is very important to translate the names of West Lake scenic spots into English.

There are many problems in the English translation of tourist attractions in China, which can be summed up as follows: Chinese focuses on parataxis and four character antithesis. When describing and naming scenic spots, the words are gorgeous and full of poetry between the lines; while English focuses on the reconstruction of the original appearance of affairs, and the words are simple and natural, like intuitive description. Due to the cultural differences between China and the west, some scenic spots are rich in cultural connotation or have descriptive reasons. However, the result of English translation ignores the essence and directly translates word for word. The target readers are confused and lack of content, which makes it difficult for them to be interested in the translation.

Tourism translation serves the tourism industry and is guided by tourists. Tourism is an important way to spread culture. Therefore, the purpose of translation is to spread culture and attract overseas tourists with a long history and rich cultural heritage.
