Reason: Why I choose this title?

English and Chinese are two languages that based on different cultures. Therefore, if we want to master a language, not only means know the mastery of vocabulary and grammar, but also familiar with its culture.

As an old saying goes: Language is like the fruit of culture, and culture is the root of language. Different countries have different cultures. It is widely acknowledged that language is the reflection of a country’s national consciousness and cultural characteristics. The difference of subjective consciousness will often affect the semantic transfer between cultures. 

With the further translation of Chinese and Western culture, translation plays an important role in people’s life. However, due to the translators are lack of understanding between Chinese and western cultures, there are a lot of obstacles in spoken and written. We all know that language is closely related to culture. This article mainly discusses the influence of cultural differences on translation from which aspects.

Signification: 

More and more researchers pay their attention to it. Through this research, we can try to reduce the mistake in translation and it can be as accurate and perfect as possible.

The research results: The influence of Chinese and Western cultural differences on translation due to different culture, regional and religion issues. It has become a hot topic in discussion. According to the main literature of our country, different people have different idea.

Wang Zuoliang, a translator, once said the greatest difficulty in translation is the differences between two cultures. Lu Shuxiang also mentioned that translator must be diversification, must be knowledgeable and have an in-depth understanding of national cultural differences. 

Central idea:

This article will analyze from the following three aspects. The difference culture between Chinese and Western .Why have these differences and how to deal with cultural differences in translation?

Organization and Structure:

This article will be divided into four parts: The first part is to introduce of the whole research. Second part is to introduce the difference between Chinese and western culture in translation. Third part will introduce the factors that influence the difference between Chinese and Western such as geography, environment, history, and religion and life values. Last one is about how to avoid misunderstanding in translation then make it perfect.

Religious differences:

Western cultural tradition is integrated in Christian culture. In some degree, only we know about Christian culture can understand western culture and origin better. In religious terms, although Chinese and English both have correspondence, they contain different religious cultures. For instance,龙and dragon, the original meaning is the same, but their religious are different. In our country, the dragon is a symbol of holiness, noble and auspicious. In a sense, the dragon is a symbol of the long history of Chinese civilization. However, in English, dragon is a symbol of the devil and the monster. So we need to distinguish them in translation. That’s better for reads to understand.

Custom differences

Custom is a way of people’s life. It covers a wide range of things, and involves all areas of social life. It is influenced by the political, economic, religious and literary arts of nation, which are influences for each other. So different countries have different customs.

The differences between Chinese and western ways of thinking

The way of thinking is a kind of thinking set by a nation or a region in the long-term development of history. There are many people in the world, and almost each nation has its own way of thinking. However, the difference way of thinking is always the main obstacle to semantic understanding between different cultures. Such as if we say红糖in Chinese, but it called brown sugar in English, rather than red sugar. When you see black tea everywhere, you need know this means 红茶，not 黑茶.There are endless examples, so that’s not a list.

Difference in daily conversation

Every nation has a polite language, but its content and usage are different. When Chinese people meet acquaintances, they often ask each other, do they eat? Where are they going? In china, this is an easygoing way of greeting .If we translate like Have you had your meal? Or where are you going? Almost people will not happy about this cause they think that you are interfering with their freedom. In addition, when we introduce one person to another, and they will say久仰大名 in Chinese. If we translated like I have heard very much about you. I think foreigners can not understand what the meaning about this sentence is. They always use nice to meet you to greeting.

Summary

All in all, there are obvious differences between china and west in regional cultural ideology and so on. It will bring a huge difficulty to translator’s work. Of course, translators should grasp the impact of cultural differences in translation, and from a professional perspective, and we should know the translation’s strategies of domestication. To make sure that the translation can be more vivid and specific.
