In this part, the author will discuss the cultural differences in translation from several aspects according to the research results of scholars at home and abroad, and put forward the possible problems in current and future translation studies.

Traditional methods of cultural differences in Translation

From 1950s to 70s, the genre of linguistics occupied the leading position in the field of translation studies. At that time, translation was thought to be a transformation between two languages. Catford, for example, defines translation as "the exchange of textual data in one language for textual data in another language". His definition of translation indicates that translation is a process of speech coding and decoding in which lexical or stylistic equivalence plays a vital role and cultural elements are neglected.

Translation from a cross cultural perspective

Bao Huinan is a typical figure in giving priority to cultural factors in the process of translation. In dealing with translation problems, he points out that one of the difficulties in translation is to solve the double obstacles of language and culture, namely, special ways and styles. He emphasized that translation is not a cross-cultural process, but a process of reducing cultural differences.

Wang Ning said that translation is hard to get rid of the shadow of "culture" in a time when global culture is omnipresent and omnipresent. Intercultural translation has also absorbed more and more non professional translation theorists, thus broadening the scope of translation.

Nida also pointed out that "bilingualism is even more important than bilingualism in terms of true translation, because words are meaningful only in the cultural aspects in which they function."

To sum up, the importance and significance of culture to translation studies is self-evident. Because language is the carrier of culture, the culture of the source language can be vividly reflected in the text between the lines. Moreover, people have received more education than before. They want to learn more from the source language, such as customs, lifestyles, religion, politics, economics and so on. Unlike ancient times, people only need to understand something roughly from the original text. Therefore, modern translators should convey different cultures through different words.nt words.

Shortcomings of previous research results

  Generally speaking, previous studies on translation have provided valuable references for the further study of this paper, and some scholars have pointed out the lack of translation theory. As far as supporters of cultural translation are concerned, some scholars' discussions are too narrow and too simplistic. Therefore, their research on translation strategy has some limitations. This is acceptable, because they live in different periods, they can only learn from former scholars, but can not predict what the next generation will be.

For example, in the 1980s, Mr. Zhang Peiji took "faithfulness, lyricism and elegance" as the basic point and generalized the translation criteria as "faithfulness and fluency", which is generally accepted as the modern translation criteria.

I think it should be corrected as "cross-cultural loyalty and smoothness". If the original text is translated faithfully, smoothly, and easily to read, without considering cultural factors at all, it is very likely to lead to wrong expression. Translation is faithful and fluent, and does not mean that the literal meaning of the original text can be fully communicated to the target audience.
