Pride and Prejudice is a novel by the British female novelist Jane Austen. Many have been devoted to the analysis of the masterpiece Pride and Prejudice. However, only a few are focused on the the status of women in society at that time. Later, I will discuss previous research in three categories. But first I shall provide some background.

Jane Austen is a famous British writer in the nineteenth century. She displays the features of the 19th century with meticulous observation and lively humorous words. She uses her unique nuanced observation power and lively and humorous words to truly portray the world around her. The novel describes the daughter of the five wives in Bennett, the protagonist is the second daughter Elizabeth. This work uses everyday life as a source of material to reflect the content of the sentimental novels popular in the society at the time and the method of writing. 

Having set the background, I shall return to the three categories of research concerning the analysis between the female status of 19th century and Pride and Prejudice. In the first category, researchers argue that women are faced with the plight of spiritual and social status. For example, Grossbard-Shechtman(2003) analyzes the relationship between marriage and the economy. Guan Shanyue (2012), Tian Yuxia (2005), Wang Lina (2010), and Zhang Xia (2012) all analyze the female consciousness reflected in the book; Huang Rui (2009), from a deeper perspective, uses Maros' theory of spiritual needs to analyze the hero's spiritual needs in Pride and Prejudice. Meng Huixia (2015) analyze the predicament of women in the social environment at that time. Xu Bangfei, and Yang Wenxi(2017) point Women' s Passive Position in Marriage. And they describe the Female Images in Pride and Prejudice. These studies analyze the social situation faced by women at the time.

In the second category, however, researchers propose women' s struggles and expound the concept of marriage at the time through women' s demands. For example, Zou Qi (2007) analyzes the meaning of women' s discourse in Pride and Prejudice from the perspective of discourse analysis; Yang Yue (2009) analyzes the concept of marriage reflected in the author's book; Zhou Aqin (2010) analyzes the book. The female image embodied in it; Li Dai (2016) makes a psychological analysis on the characterization of Elizabeth in Pride and Prejudice. These studies reflect the view of marriage at the time. On this basis, this paper points out the changes in women' s demands in marriage. There have been some changes in the demands of women in marriage in the United Kingdom. From the main consideration of economic factors to the consideration of economic conditions and emotional factors, the role of love in marriage has risen.

Another framework applied is feminism. As a female writer, the marriage concept advocated by the author has a progressive color. Austen (2002)argues the relationship between sense and sensibility concerning the Pride and Prejudice. GroGan Xiannv(2005) proposes that “Austin opposed the inequality between women and men”. Zhang Xia (2012) describes the germination of female consciousness and points out the manifestations and limitations of female consciousness in Pride and Prejudice. Tian Yuxia (2005) talks about Jane Austen's female consciousness in Pride and Prejudice from the perspective of comedy. Jane Austen also had her own unique insights into the widespread sex discrimination against women at the time. Her concern over the fragile economic status of women is still relevant. 

In sum, all the above studies have put forward valuable ideas about the status of women. However, there seems to be a lack of in-depth and detailed analysis of the  changes in women' s social status at the time. Thus my study may hopefully make some contribution in this direction. At the same time, this study will sum up the views of British society and puts forward the views on women' s social status.
