Literature Review

With the development of international trade and during the process of the participating of the financial institutions, letter of credit has become one of the main means of payment in international trade. 

Di Buxi(2005) points out that translating and checking the Letter of Credit is of crucial importance, which is not only a matter of professional skill, but also a matter of good command of professional English level. From long sentences translation to insertion, attribute, word segmentation, verb structure, adverb, his research means a lot to the L/C translation.

Liang Xuesong, Zhengjing (2003) points out L/C is the money, any understanding or translation error will lead to loss. They analyzes the necessary of the phrase and key words translation in Letter of Credit. Like these words which used high frequency in L/C. Which also help us understand L/C easier and more accurate.

TT Shu(2012) offered us a data in her works : Almost 70% of the trading are done through L/C. Since L/C contains a large number of professional terms and special sentence patterns,which cannot be mastered without professional training and learning.

Gao Limin,Liu Jinlong(2015) in their article explores, by way of examples, the lexical and syntactic features of English letters of credit and the strategies for translating them into Chinese. It is argued that precision and objectiveness should be upheld as the principles for translating letters of credit.

Basically, these studies gave us a good guide in the L/C translation. From their research of the sentences and words analyzation, we can understand the L/C better and avoid some misunderstanding. They are worth learning from.Of course, The understanding of Letter of Credit is more complicated. Not only several words or sentences but also each term, each word in the L/C should be understood precisely. In this article, I will analyze the key words in different parts of the L/C, also some special words, from the English structure, style, language and translation methods of made comprehensive and systematic analysis and discussion. The significance of this research is to avoiding the risk in the trading. With these analyzation, hope that we will understand the L/C better, reduce the loss and misunderstanding

Introduction

i. Business Letter of Credit English is a legal document, which have legal binding force. Compared with other business documents, it is more formal, more strict, and made of written language, colloquial words are rarely used. It has many archaic words, compound words etc. Another obvious feature of business L/C English is the use of abbreviation word or sentences. Short and less words, but more information, meet the needs of people's efficient exchange of information. Based on these strict and special features, the understanding of business L/C English become more difficult. Since any misunderstanding of any words may due to the great loss of money for the exporter in the trading, so, the accurate understanding really important.
