English language education has been accorded much importance in the People’s Republic of China in the last quarter century. English education in modern Chinese began in the period of westernization movement. Due to the policy of seclusion, the comprehensive strength of the late Qing dynasty compared with western countries is far away. 

After the opium war in the 1840s, The western capitalist powers with warship artillery opened the doors of the Qing empire. The Chinese and foreign diplomacy activity increasingly numerous and complicated. Qing dynasty needs to cultivate many foreign communication talents, especially the requirements of foreign language talents has become more and more urgent.

Building schools and training talents is the core of the westernization movement.

Westernization movement in line with "long skills by barbarians" and "the purpose of the modulator is constant" principle. since 1862,Qing dynasty set up more than 30 " westernization school "in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Tianjin, Nanjing and other places, hopes that through learning practical technology such as western language and literature can on the road to revival.

In this article, through the analysis of China's modern history, we can understand the characteristics and effects of the early English education, know the developing track of modern English education, mainly analyzes the characteristics and the impact of westernization school English education, the advantages and disadvantages of using modern English education. Make a plan about the future of the modern English education.
