   Many have been devoted to the analysis of the O Henry. Because, His unique structure of the novel art, writing skills and style in shaping the character of the novel is worthy of our imitation and reference. Later, I will discuss deeply in two novels. But first I shall provide some background.

   As we all know, O Henry is one of the founders of modern American fiction, with Chekhov, Maupassant tied for the world's three largest short story masters. He also is the father of modern American short stories. His works include "Encyclopedia of American life" reputation.

   This thesis studies the characters in O Henry's short stories. The author wrote a lot of stories, created a lot of poor but happy little people, good liar, etc.. He used realistic techniques, specific plot, interspersed with humor and satire, successfully created a lot of typical characters.

   O Henry is good at writing a dramatic design plot.First, laying the basis, then paving, drawing the contradiction, finally ended suddenly. The author chooses all the trivial things in the ordinary life, not the earthshaking social events. In his own works, as the spokesman of the persons, telling their ups and downs, mining and the praises of their human and human nature, and the bourgeois class people deeply expose and criticize,expose the unfair and unreasonable, not a normal phenomenon in social life.
