It’s going, and if you promise him, he'll follow that beetle to Mexico......"
It can be seen that our original humorous master is carefully exploring his own literary path along the tradition of humor in the west. In this novel, the author does not attempt to tell people what truth is, but writes interesting people and interesting things in life, which makes people happy and funny. Now it seems shallow, but the story was originally a popular joke in the hotel. Once it was written, it became the representative work of humor in American literature, and thus established the name of Mark Twin. The first great book, "a fool's journey abroad," published in 1869, is a collection of reports on what the author saw and heard in Europe. The book is ironic by the peculiar humor of the ignorance of the European aristocracy, the feudal religion, and the ignorance of the rich American traveler. There are many keen observations and insights from the author. But generally speaking, the work is fresh, interesting, relaxed and humorous, and it is not pleasing to the American readers. After "the fool travels abroad", Mark Twin has published a great work "hard years". This is the author’s life experience in 60s western development area and the anecdotes of the creation of a theme. Though it is not a masterpiece of Mark Twin, but it is very popular. It has the characteristics of all kinds of teasing and deceives or Western Humor -- a typical "exaggerated story". This period of Mark Twain's novels are only in the creation of jokes stories and weird things, which more emphasis on the vulgar out of the strange, utterly ridiculous, due to set the whole room roaring with laughter. If Mark Twin stayed at this point, it wasn't Mark Twain, as we know it. Most of the western "humorous literature" disappeared with the passage of time, but Mark Twin started from "telling jokes", and gradually reflected his keen observation and profound thought of social life in his works. Poetic beauty and comic humor?
2. Mark Twain's literary creation in the middle period
2.1 The characteristics of medium term literary creation
Mark Twin's works in the medium term are not limited to simply teasing and amusing. They have profound ideological content, but they are still famous for their exaggerated language and absurd plot. During this period, Mark Twin's literary works have been showed differently t at that time .They place "general humor different writers, to write humorous stories known for Mark Twin, not a writer for humor and humor, vulgar readers. He soon matures as a social critic of social ills pointedly criticize errors."
2.2 Representative works of early literature
Such as short stories running for governor, journalism in Tennessee, and the novel the gilded age. "Tennessee press", the chief editor thought my manuscript was too flat and subscribers did not satisfied with "the worst articles".So he wantonly altered and deleted, then it becomes a vicious abuse trade article which was "stimulating, and to the point". The newspaper editor and humorous objects upside down, to objective and impartial article that subscribers are going bad things down, and thought in the article was just like a shrew like this point, the good and evil as against unknown, opinionated, will naturally lead people to distinguish between good and evil at the comedy nature born. The next newsroom "fierce fighting", initially a little people read it seems to be rather baffling, a noisy, painted with a blood red practical joke. "People were shot, stabbed, cut off limbs, blown out of the window to the flesh and blood flying in all directions...... Only the bloody chief editor and I sat there......"
This piece of writing represents the typical style of this novel: extremely exaggerated language, absurd plot. Although the author attempts to build a bridge between mutual criticism with humorous words and the bourgeois press real fight, but the novel in art inevitably stilted and artificial, although impressive, but the lack of the beauty of art. By contrast, "running for governor" is much more mature, and it is the peak of Mark Twin's early humorous art, which is quite profound in content. It reveals the dark inside of the so-called "democratic" electoral system in the United States. One's reputation the Independence Party's candidate, was the competitor --- the Republicans and Democrats -- to use their control of the newspaper making series of unwarranted charges, has been planted and threatened, get scorched by the flames had died down, dropped out of the race.
The novel mainly adopts exaggeration and positive and negative reversal techniques, resulting in a strong comic effect. At firat the hero's reputation is not so bad. Because in the race for mayor he is added the title: "shameless perjury maker", the Montana thief "and" ghouls guilty "and" madman "and" dirty corrupt elements "and" odious blackmail "and other six charges, who can be regarded as a super criminal. More exciting plot is at a public meeting, nine toddlers, and "all colors", "with all kinds of poor shape, grimace with his legs and call him dad. Exaggeration is to the extreme, imagination is also wonderful. The infamous political hooligan became the accuser, and "'s reputation" has become a candidate object is exposed; and rival hero charmingly naive in stark contrast to his abuse, insults and attacks. The work is full of humor, hilarious plot and funny scenes. Although the author tries to find out the United States democratic election’s corruption and darkness, the novel in the ideological content is quite deep. It still has a relaxed and humorous tone .It is not hard exposing but let the reader in helplessness, naturally feel the author's views on social issues.
3. Mark and Twain's literary creation in the later period
3.1 Features of later works
With the maturity of art and the more profound understanding of social life, Mark Twin's works around 80s have more serious content. The creation of this period has the characteristics of critical transition from early to late, relaxed, happy irony: on the one hand to keep early lively tone, on the other hand also show the observation and reflection of social life, express the ideological content of serious.
3.2 Representative works of early literature
The adventures of Tom Sawyer are one of the most popular works in children's novels. The author wrote this work when he felt the sad of social reality, and cannot find a pleasant theme in the contemporary social life.So he chose civil war years, depicting the life of childhood, it vividly recreates, the Mississippi River on a small town life.
The success of the novel is a very true portrayal of a love of freedom, the pursuit of life fun image of children. The author uses the excellent humorous exaggeration and amusing plot and design to create the image of Tom, a lovely and mischievous child. It is a work full of childhood fears and joys which is written for children, but it marks the maturity of Mark Twin's novel art. In this novel, the author has formed his own humorous and witty language style. "The adventures of Hakhel Finn" in a fourteen year old boy hero, on the surface of relaxing and romantic story, narrowly reflects many serious problems: racial oppression and cruelty, worship, people, and wanton rampant bandits insatiably avaricious, everywhere, township residents swindler fled poverty fatuities. It is no longer a work written only for teenagers, but also becomes a classic in modern American novels. The novel has profound ideological content, the narrative method is natural and fluent, the use of spoken language is very skilled, and the characterization of the image is also very successful.
However, the author does not completely throw away his humorous nature, and the comical gestures of the two "kings" and "Dukes" in the novel remind us of his early humorous stories. At the end of the novel, it has always been considered a small flaw in this classic work----Tom in a romantic way "rescued" Jim looked a little silly, neither fish nor fowl.
However, I think the plot shows the deep friendship between Huck and Jim and the character of Tom, a naughty boy who likes to play adventure games. If the adventures of Tom Sawyer and the adventures of Hakhel Finn are regarded as sisters, the ending is an integral part. As for the end of the novel, Jim was free because of his master's will, diluting the theme of the anti-slavery system, which was also a helpless thing, which was only under the conditions at that time. At least it reflects the author's ideal for the goodness of human nature.
4. Conclusion
Mark Twain at the time of his social, has a more clear and objective understanding, and with his life experience deepened, this awareness has gradually deep. He can discern in prosperity under the surface of the American Society of ugly situation, and through its sharp strokes, which appear on the page. Mark Twain adopts the form of local literature in his literary creation. He advocates that the living environment that the author is familiar with is the basis of the development of the story. Not only that, he also uses dialect style description in his works. His artistic features are mainly represented by the use of colloquial style and dialect. His works spread American native feelings to readers all over the world. Therefore, Mark Twain became the originator of American literature, and he had a profound influence on the creation of American literature. In the works of William Faulkner and others, there is the shadow of Mark Twain.
Mark Twain, in the literature, is a combination of realism and romanticism. This combination is perfect. He passed on the characters of exaggeration, fantastic description-----because he wants to present something, have unlimited expansion, read to make people laugh. In some extent, Mark Twain also inherits the American humor and develops people.
As Palin Ton said, Mark Twain was the first person in his own way and his thinking American writer. For the development of American literature he has an irreplaceable role.
