1.1 Research background

With the rise and application of the Internet, it has brought about earth-shaking changes in people's life, work and learning. According to the 44th "Statistical Report on the Development of China's Internet Network" published by China Internet network Information Center (CNNIC), by June 2019, the number of Internet users in China reached 854 million, the Internet penetration rate reached 61.2 percent, and the scale of mobile Internet users in China reached 8.47 billion, the proportion of Internet users using mobile phones to access the Internet reached 99.1%. Compared with five years ago, the average download rate of mobile broadband has increased by about 6 times, and the mobile Internet traffic rate has dropped by more than 90%. “Speed up and fee reduction” drove a significant increase in mobile Internet traffic, with users using 7.2GB of mobile traffic per month, which is 1.2 times the global average; mobile Internet access traffic consumption reached 55.39 billion GB, up 107.3% year on year.. From this point of view, the Internet has become an indispensable part of people's lives. Under this background, the network vocabulary came into being, reflecting people's real life and reflecting people's psychology. Network language is concise, vivid and extremely interesting. It produces many language variants in the process of communication, promotes the updating of language vocabulary and the emergence of new life styles, promotes language development and integration, and provides Sociolinguistics research new topics and challenges.

1.2 Purpose and significance of the research

1.2.1 Purpose of the research

This research is based on the rapid development of the current network, the network phenomenon of new words in the network and the many social problems arising from the use of network language. Through the new perspective of sociolinguistics in recent years, the basic types of network language variation are analyzed, and the causes of language variation are further explained and helps people use it in a standardized way.

In the new era background and social environment, the speed of online new words is updated quickly and varied, which has a wide impact on sociolinguistics. In-depth and systematic analysis of the formation background, generation mechanism and structural characteristics of new online words helps to deepen people's understanding of network language, and has broad theoretical significance for promoting the progress of Sociolinguistics.

1.2.2.2 Realistic significance

The development of network culture has changed people's living environment and educational environment. At the same time, it has become an important factor affecting the various components of ideological and political education. In other words, the current ideological and political education is influenced by both the traditional cultural environment and the emerging network cultural environment, and it faces many opportunities and challenges. So it's especially important to explore how to help people regulate the use of web languages.

1.3 Development process analysis 

1.3.1 Analysis of the status quo of foreign research

The World Language Center at the University of Hartford held a seminar on online languages in 1997. The conference invited many very influential linguists. For the issue of network language, the meeting made some related discussions. After that, Spain held a study on international network language in 2003. These two meetings have made the special language of online language gradually attract the attention of global linguists. In 2001, David Crystal, editor of ‘the Cambridge Encyclopedia of Languages’, published the first academic monograph on the phenomenon of online language—‘Language and the Internet’. At the same time, the book also made Crystal the leader of online language research. He pointed out that the revolution of the Internet is also a revolution in the field of linguistics, and it still affects the future of language. Between 2002 and 2003, a wealth of online languages appeared in the ‘Journal of Language and English Language Teaching’. Lisa Shaw (2004) gives a definition of network language in the article ‘How Network Language Affects English and the Way We Communicate’, analyzes why online languages are becoming more popular in computer science, and discusses the advantages of network languages and shortcomings. In the spring of 2005, the language and Internet seminar held in the United States introduced the research results of the network's influence on language and culture, indicating that the study of network language has become an important part of social language research. As the network language culture is gradually valued and recognized by the mainstream culture of the society, authoritative dictionaries of some major countries such as Britain and the United States also include some online language vocabulary. Another scholar, Sanel (2008), pointed out that the vocabulary of the network language has some unique characteristics. He believes that the network language, as a new medium communication tool, has the characteristics of globalization, interactivity and diversity. In addition, various online dictionaries have suddenly become popular. In short, foreign countries have a wide range of research on network languages.

1.3.2 Analysis of domestic research situation

Since about 2000, Chinese scholars have begun to study network language. Domestic research mainly focuses on the following categories: the preparation of network language dictionaries, the status quo of network language, the rhetoric of network language, network language and teaching. Yi Wen'an edited and published the ‘Internet Fashion Dictionary’ in 2000, which is the first dictionary in China to summarize online language. In 2001, the Chinese Network Language Dictionary compiled by Professor Yu Genyuan of the Applied Linguistics Society was the second online language dictionary in China. In 2003, a network-specific dictionary called ‘Jinshan Birds Language Communication’ was officially launched. It is the first online dictionary in China and a dynamic dictionary for informal publishing. The Xinhua Network Language Dictionary, published by the Commercial Press in 2012, contains online words used by Internet users in high-frequency use during network communication and communication. The emergence of the network language dictionaries is a sign of network language as a new language phenomenon and research object. The network language has entered the field of academic research, filling the gap of the online dictionary published in China. In addition, Liu Haiyan's ‘Network Language’ and Lu Mingchen's ‘Network Language Research’ have all discussed the network vocabulary.

1.5 Research method

1.5.1 Analytical induction

This study will expound the basic types of network language variation. Through the analysis of the background and structural characteristics of the network language, the characteristics of the new words in the speech are summarized, and finally the reasons of language variation are explained by combining Sociolinguistics.

1.5.2 Literature research method

This thesis collects relevant books from the network culture environment of ideological and political education, retrieves high-quality thesiss, newsthesiss and other materials, and analysis, induction and summarizes through various resources and channels such as online resources and offline thesis books. The basic types of network language variation are analyzed based on sociolinguistics. Combining the research situation at home and abroad, we can find the current opportunities for network language culture and further enrich the network language.

1.5.3 Empirical analysis

This thesis combines the content and direction of the research with the specific examples for analysis and summary. On the basis of the existing theory, through the concrete examples of network language, summarize the use of network language from practical examples, and put forward practical and feasible optimization strategies to provide reference and thinking for standardizing people's use of network language.

Under the guidance of the instructor, my thesis began with the selection of the thesis, and after the collection of materials, the preparation of the thesis outline, the completion of the opening report and other thesis writing process. 

The thesis mainly studies network language analysis based on sociolinguistics, and uses research methods such as analytical induction, literature research, and empirical analysis.

Under the guidance of the teacher, I have taken a meticulous attitude towards learning since I started writing my thesis. 1.7 Problems in the research of the subject and solutions

① Problems: In the data collection stage, due to the large number of relevant literature on the basic types of network language variation, it is necessary to collect a lot of new examples and think deeply, which consumes a lot of energy and time to read and consult books and websites. And think, analyze and organize.

② Solution: in accordance with the expected work progress, first of all to make a basic revision of the text, format and content of the thesis, to make it streamlined and sublimated; Secondly, I need to look through some references and look for more specific theories and examples in sociolinguistics to support the arguments. Finally, under the guidance of the teacher, I will reorganize my thesis and find out some innovations to improve the quality of the thesis.
