1.1 Research Background 

From the perspective of teaching theories, It was pointed out that the factors which affect current Anglo-American literature curriculum teaching curriculum are various, such as some textbooks are outdated , some students' cognitive attitudes are biased and learning participations is low, teachers' teaching concept is musty , teaching approaches is monotone and repeating and so on. Because of inefficient classroom teaching strategies, curriculum is not reasonable. The strategy of improving the effectiveness of English and American literature classroom teaching is put forward: teachers should be aware of the teaching objectives of the course location and adhere to the student-centered, the student's growth and development, take a variety of teaching methods. Meanwhile, teaching content should be fully integrated.

2. Literature Review

  2.1 Literary theories

   If undergraduate students can apply literary theories to the teaching of English and American literature, they will learn about the same literary work from different theoretical perspectives and be familiar with the basic concepts of the theories and applications.

  2.2. Teaching strategy analysis

The teaching theories in English and American literature is an important course for undergraduates in English majors, And therefore, all kinds of colleges and universities foreign language English professional teaching plan or training programs are occupied an important position. It is of great significance to improve students' basic language skills, enhance students' understanding of western literature and culture, master certain basic knowledge of literature, enhance students' literary appreciation ability and enhance their humanistic accomplishment. However, at the end of the course, the accomplishment of the teaching objectives is useless to meet the expectations. This inefficiency or even ineffective phenomenon is very common. This paper tries to analyze that the main factors which influences the effectiveness of this course from the perspective of effective teaching and puts forward some relevant strategies.
