The article is originated from "How to Fix IBM" of "Forbes Forum" published in October 23, 2014, written by the famous technological columnist Robert Robert X. Cringely, who is known as Silicon Valley seers.

Along with the progress of science and technology and the development of production, the tide of economic globalization has come. In such a complex economic environment full of opportunities and challenges, whether the business will be thrive or not is  closely related to the management stratergies.  IBM, one of the founders of the computer industry, has been leading the industry. The lengthy IBM corporate statement, records almost the entire course of development of the IT industry. But since 1980s, it began to decline. Its performance kept worsening, losses and debts grew. In the essay "How to Fix IBM", the author analyzes the shortcomings of IBM development initiatives, and gives his suggestions for IBM regarding to how to grow in the future.

    This article belongs to science and technology of which its significant feature is the use of terminology, such as the use of professional terminology of the IT industry in this article. Because the text includes the management of IBM, business terms is also frequently used. Besides, for it is a column writing, the author reserves his own writing characteristics; sometimes it is colloquial. With a delicate combination of long and short sentences, a not such complex clause structure, it reads smoothly. 

The purpose of translating this text is to get to know the characteristics of this type of texts, learn to adapt the right schemes to translating and thus develop translating skills in general.

On the whole, the text is worth studying. The rich knowledge of marketing and management enriches my understanding of the business including some truth of "go" which gives a philosophy of life. The translation of the text will be a good practice for me.    

二、The paper outline

    Introduction:

The paper is divided into three parts. The first part is an introduction to the source text and language properties of the original text. In the second part and last part, the translator discusses, with specific examples from the texts, about the general translating principles that are used, in addition to some remarks about the problems encountered and the corresponding solutions adopted in this translating practice.
