A Comparison of Christmas and Spring Festival---开题报告

Chinese traditional festival and western festival are born and grow in two different and independent cultural system. Both of them are unique in their own cultural. They are distinctive but varied and graceful. China and western country has two different traditional festivals because of different natural environment and different social situation.  

    Nowadays, with the advent of globalization, which greatly promoted the communication between Chinese and western cultural. A number of western festivals and customs, such as Christmas, Valentine's Day and April Fool's Day has been introduced to China. And they are getting more and more popular in china. During the Valentine’s Day, you can see dealers sell rose everywhere. And in Christmas, Christmas trees and Santa Claus are full of the street. Some festivals like Mother's Day is gradually popular in youth groups. And all these festivals trend in the spread to other groups. We can say that western festivals has been gradually walk into the Chinese people's lives.

    In contrast, some Chinese traditional festivals like Spring Festival, the Dragon Boat Festival and Mid-Autumn Day are impacted by western festivals. For example, QiXi is a Chinese traditional valentine’s day. But the connotation of QiXi is rarely known by people. Now, in a way, Chinese traditional festivals have been transformed into food. The customs people remember is only to eat, no other things. In spring festival, people eat dumplings; In Dragon Boat Festival, people eat rice dumplings; In mid-autumn day, people eat moon cake. In Lantern festival, people eat sweet dumplings. It seems that we celebrated the festivals after eating this kind of food. However, if we do not stay up late in spring festival; we do not enjoy the glorious full moon in mid-autumn day; we do not watch lanterns in Lantern Festival. What’s the difference between traditional festivals and normal days? Chinese people can eat dumplings everyday if they want. Now, the question is how to inherit our traditional custom culture? This triggered a fierce debate among many scholars, folklorists and the NPC and CPPCC members in the community. They worry that the younger generation will lose themselves because of the lack of rich traditional education and in the face of foreign culture. Therefore, a comprehensive comparison between Chinese traditional festival and western culture. By the comparison, we can profoundly revealed the histories, traditional value conception and the deep-rooted cultural psychology of Chinese traditional festivals and western culture. It will help us to understand traditional festival’s profound connotation. And we can objective and systematic understanding of the similarities and differences between Chinese traditional festival cultures and western cultures.
