Research state in China:

Blue sky and white cloud, brick red tile green ... The color word can be said to be one of the most high-frequency words used by human beings. Domestic research on color words originated in the 1940s. With the development of the economy, people ’s lives have become more stable, and communication between China and the West has become more frequent. The meaning of color words in different countries is also different. College English teachers , Translation experts, scholars, etc. began to focus on systematic research and summary of color words.

Domestic scholars' research on color words has been greatly influenced by the early Western color word researchers Berlin and Kane. At the same time, the domestic scholars have a relatively single research direction, mainly to analyze the similarities and differences of color words in Chinese and Western cultures, symbolic meaning, metaphor and The translation of color words in literary works hopes to be more precise in cross-cultural communication, foreign language teaching, and translation of western literary works. 

Regarding the research on color words, some domestic scholars have done corresponding systematic research on Chinese and Western color words. For example, "The Beauty of Color in Language" published by Professor Liu Yunquan of the Chinese Department of Hangzhou University in 1990 is a pioneering work in the field of color words. It uses sociolinguistic theories and methods to study color, and discusses the evolution of Chinese color vocabulary, characteristics and other essential attributes and inextricably linked attributes with art, literature, science and society. Another example is Mr. Zhang Peiji's "English Semantic Words and Translation" published in 1964, which studied western color words from the perspective of the Chinese, and expounded on the etymology, composition and evolution of English color words.

Research status abroad:

Compared with domestic, foreign scholars' research on color words emphasizes the cultural association meaning of color words, the occurrence order of basic color words, the relationship between color and specific fields, etc., and the similarities and differences between Chinese and Western cultural connotations of color words involve less . In addition, the people who participate in research abroad come from different fields, such as ethnologists, linguists, painters, estheticians, etc., so they can combine the research on color with their own areas of expertise to create a new kind of new The results can be used more effectively in the fields of art, ethnic integration, and language development.

The American ethnologist Berlin and the linguist Kane and the book "Basic Color Terms: A Study of Universality and Ontology" published in 1969 laid the foundation for the study of color systems, which is of great significance in the field of color research. In 1978, after a long period of research, three scholars including Kane, Mike, and Daniel published an article discussing the order of occurrence of basic colors. They believed that there were only six basic colors: red, yellow, green, blue, black, white, and other colors. For example, pink, purple, orange and other colors are compounded and derived from 6 basic colors. But at the same time, some scholars put forward different views on the basic colors and they are different. He believes that the basic colors should be consistent with the day and night of the earth's cycle, that is, the basic colors are black and two colors, and these two basic colors can derive colorful.

This thesis will do research and analysis through two methods: literature research method and comparative method.

1. Literature research method: try to search and document literatures in Chinese and English color word culture through the use of libraries, reference rooms, Internet and other channels, and organize the literatures.

2. Comparative method: A comparative analysis method is used to conduct a comparative study of the cultural connotations of Chinese and English color words in different periods and in different language environments. 

Through the above two methods of data inquiry, combined with the experience in actual foreign trade work, comprehensively compare the differences between the Chinese and Western countries on the color word culture, and how to avoid errors in business negotiations.
