Purpose and Significance of Subject Study:

2.1 Research Purpose:

With the rapid development of the global politics, economy, military and education in the 21Century, as a aspiring youth, who is also the master of the country’s future, strongly clear about that the education is and will continue to be the foundation of one country. While family education is the critical factor that will greatly influence a child’s whole life. Our country mainly proposes Closed Education, but western countries always follow the Open Education, especially the American family education will be the most representative of the mainstream culture of the West. The difference of cultural background between oriental and western family education directly lead to various differences in the way of family education. In a word, through the comparison between the two different family education in the field of purpose, content, mode and result, we can figure out their respective merits and demerits, thus take the essences and consummate ourselves, thereby more strongly promote the family education development of our country.

2.2 Research Significance:

Family Education, Schooling, Social Education together constitute the three main Power of Education, while family education is the most early and also the most important one ,which greatly take effect on the development and formation of children’s thinking and world view. In the view of child rearing, Chinese family always hope their child will identify him early, but the American parents will pay more attention on the children’s survival adaptive ability and creative ability. In the field of educational mode, Chinese family enjoy taking everything on their child, while American parents prefer to let their children go ahead freely to make practice. All those disparity will lead to the obvious gap in the survival adaptive ability when the children grow up in both countries. Through all aspects of comparison, thus focus on the children’s independent thinking ability, creative ability, confidence and integrated development, it will make great important sense on promoting children’s healthy growth and improving the quality of the talents in the future.

3. Research Status and trend of development at home and abroad

3.1 Research status at home:

Family Education have been taking great importance in our country, and Chinese family education also have learn to make up document of “On the notice of declaration for research subject of Eleventh Five-Year Plan on national family education”. Furthermore, many scholars in our country also involve in the family education research and difference comparison on family education mode in both China and America. For example, Zhang Chong Chen proposes that Chinese family education keep very long history, which has been early recorded in the document of Zhou Yi. Zhao Bo also claims out that child is the treasure in the family, the future of the country and most valuable asset of mankind. Education is related to the development of family, country, nationality and society, and family education play the most important role in the child’s healthy growth. Zhang Wei mentions in the article of The Comparison of Chinese and American Family Educational Mode that due to different social system, cultural background, educational purpose in both China and America, it brings different family education ideas to both children and parents.

3.2 Research status abroad:

In recent years, America, Britain, Scotland, Singapore and many other countries have carried out their unique plan of Excellence in Education in the international education reform. And America has fully realized the affect of family education on the whole education in this plan. It has emphasized on the support from both society and family, thus improving student’s school record and narrowing gap among them. America has its unique Home Schooling mode, also called education at home or schooling at home, which is one education form that is different from schooling education. It also means that family education has been taken attention and recognized abroad. One Chinese American scientist Professor Zhenning Yang thought that such family education is one of outstanding features in American education, in terms of the acquisition of knowledge, it does not emphasize the provision of clear and systematic knowledge, but simple let the students learn by themselves of gradually from their own experiences. Although it can’t lay solid knowledge foundation in this learning course , it helps students form independent thinking and creative ability.

3.3 Trend of development:

For quite a long time in the future, the family education in our country will be in the instruction of scientific development view, persist in people oriented and morality first in the viewpoint of family education, pay attention on the basic education, individualized education and leisure education in the content of family education, take seriously on practice, interest, communication and family-school cooperation in family education mode. Every parent hope their children can grow up in the healthy environment, therefore current parents keep important responsibility on family education, more and more people will emphasize on family education in the future.
