The first step of translation is to understand that translation is not only a subject, but also an art. It's not that we memorize the words and memorize the grammar that we can do a good job of translation. Translation is the re-creation of language art, so it's not enough to master the theory. It needs a lot of practice and do some translation research and comparison.

Walden Lake, as a classic prose, has beautiful strokes and profound ecological thoughts, so more and more scholars have studied it. In line with the attitude of research, two different versions of Walden Lake are selected for research and comparison. One is from the Western Translation Committee of Sheng Shi education, and the other is from Wang Wen Na's personal version. The two versions have different starting points, which leads to fundamental differences in translation methods. One is to use literal translation, the other is to use free translation. Because the starting point of Translation Committee is for the readers to learn and use Chinese and English, the expression of direct translation can let the readers learn the interpretation of words and basic grammar. Compared with Wang Wen Na's personal translation, it can be seen from the introduction of the foreword that there are a lot of researches on Thoreau's own life experience and the contents of Walden lake, a natural literature work. Therefore, the whole translation is in favor of free translation. Many translation sentences can make people feel Thoreau's original thoughts and ideas, and want to express the meaning of the world Graph. Under the guidance of practical translation course, this thesis has produced some research results from the perspective of translation, which are mainly divided into four parts.

The first chapter is a brief introduction to the research background and version of Walden Lake.

The second chapter is the standard of translation, which mainly makes a comparative analysis of free translation and literal translation. Wang Wen Na's personal translation is more inclined to free translation, the overall sentence and expression are more fluent, and more able to express some thoughts that Thoreau's original author wanted to express. Sheng Shi education Western Translation Committee is the expression of literal translation. It is hoped that the expression of literal translation can facilitate the readers to learn English and let them experience the thoughts of the original author from literal translation.

The third chapter is the translation expression, from the whole translation to the part translation, from the details to the whole, because all literary works are composed of words and sentences, and the difference between translators is the most incisive expression from these details. When using different translations for the same word, the reader can understand the literal meaning of the word better, and can feel the role and different feelings in the whole sentence through each word. From words to translation of the whole sentence. Because the original grammar expression and sentence structure of English and Chinese are very different, and the comparison between the two versions makes these problems more acute. The translation of sentences in the version of Education Committee makes people understand that the author makes sentences in this way, but Wang Wen Na's version makes people feel the concept of "I", which Thoreau emphasized in writing Walden Lake.

The fourth chapter is a summary of the two versions of Walden Lake, summarizing some of my own experience and research results, as well as my own efforts in translation.
