William Shakespeare , the greatest and the most famous of all

English authors. Hamlet is considered the summit of Shakespeare’s

art. One of the four great tragedies of Shakespeare, Hamlet is the

sign of the maturation in the art of Shakespeare’s play. It also reflects

the light of the English Renaissance. This article aims to analyze the

tragedy aspects in Hamlet. In this play, there are many characters.

With different character, each one reflects different feature of

different stage and their social status, and also their value of life.

The struggle between Hamlet and Claudius is about the conflict

between the newly emerged capital humanists and the feudal evil

force, which reflects the humanists’ hardship for their dreams to

come true. As the mitigation of the time, Hamlet shows that it is

destined to fail for humanists.

The General Introduction of the Story

It is known that Hamlet is the most remarkable works of

Shakespeare in his dramas. The story of the play is set in Denmark.

Gertrude, Queen of Denmark, widowed by the sudden death of the

king, marries the king’s brother Claudius within two months, and

thus becomes the Queen of the new King Claudius. Prince Hamlet,

son of the dead king, returns home from the University of the new

Wittenberg after hearing the news. He suspects the murderous role in

his father’s death played by Claudius, his uncle. Later his father’s

ghost appears to tell him the truth and confirms his suspicion.

Hamlet undertakes the task to revenge against the murderer. He

pretends to be mad out of his passion for Ophelia who is daughter of

Polonius , an old courtier. Later, Hamlet has a play acted, which

further confirms his suspicion. Claudius is deeply disturbed by the

performance and decides to send Hamlet to England after Hamlet

mistakenly kills Polonius. Meanwhile Claudius sends assassins to kill

Hamlet on the voyage. But Hamlet succeeds in coming out of it alive

and returns to Denmark again. Unfortunately Hamlet comes back at

the time of Ophelia’s funeral. Ophelia goes mad after the death of her

father and drowned in a stream. Laertes, Ophelia’s brother decides

to avenge the death of his sister and father by challenging Hamlet to

a duel. In the sword play, conspired by Claudius to kill Hamlet. The

Queen, at this moment, has drunk from a poisoned cup intended for

Hamlet. Just before death Laertes tells Hamlet about the plot.

Hamlet then in a passion, stabs Claudius. Therefore, in the final

scene of the play, nearly all the major characters die on the stage.

Analyzes the reason of Hamlet Tragedy

Firstly, Hamlet is indecisive. Although he is good at thinking,

but he is indecisive, this also why his revenge becomes tragedy.

Facing the father was killed, mother be possessed, royalty was stolen,

Hamlet has a strong desire for revenge. Hamlet has been firmly

express his firm belief of revenge .“To be or not to be, that is the

question.” This is the perfect reflection of his hesitated character.

Secondly, Hamlet’s detests evil so much. He yearns for light,

Hates evil, swears to eradicate the evil. This character is the

Important power to promote Hamlet’s life. In the first act, he is

angry with his mothers chop and change. He makes crazy revenge on

his uncle, regardless of other people’s sacrifice. Due to this character,

it inevitably leads to do things more extremely.

Thirdly, Hamlet does things alone from the beginning to the end.

Although the officers and soldiers have sympathy for him, sailors

help him escape dangers when he is in trouble, his good friend,

Horatio, is behind him all the time, Hamlet never wants to rely on

the masses. He even doesn’t put the task entrusted to Horatio,

just talks about his thoughts to him. Is it impossible for Hamlet to

do battles by relying on the masses? Yes, of course. He can make a

riot just like Laertes, because people loves him. His uncle also

admits“the great love the general gender bear him. Who dipping

all his faults in their affection. Would like the spring that turneth

unwilling to corporate with people. What he believes is his own

ability. What’s more, in his mind he is the only people who can

complete such hard task.

Finally, Hamlet inner conflict developed with the revenge for his

father and the external conflict gradually taken by inner conflict. He

believes the Ideal but the reality of ugly disappointed him; Love

Ophelia and his mother, but also hate their fragile. His fate inevitably

struced into the fierce conflicts. Hamlet’s dilemma is the symbol of

expression when people lost faith in the European Renaissance. There

is a famous saying well said “Character determines destiny.”

Hamlet’s tragedy characters of his tragedy destiny buried the

Summary

Hamlet’s tragedy life represent’s speculation during the

humanism period. Hamlet is the representative of humanism, his

tragedy is a comprehensive result of the power of the feudal class

objectively relatively strong humanist relatively weak and humanist’s

subjective limitation.
