The Analysis of Female Characters in The Great Gatsby-开题报告

一、国内研究

Many people know The Great Gatsby from Murakami Haruki , and many people have seen this tragedy of drunken gold fans on the screen stage. There are many different versions of The Great Gatsby, presented in different art forms. The interpretation, some people even listened to the jazz music of "Young and Beautiful", then to the movie and follow to the original book. There is no doubt that this is a world-class work of literature. 

In China, it has been regarded as a representative work of capitalist cancer for a long period，only until after the reform and opening up, many scholars' eyes returned to the multi-dimensional meaning of this work and its name was rectified. 

Wu Jian Guo talked about Fitzgerald's life experience in Fitzgerald Studies. And the creative background of The Great Gatsby, in the chapter Fitzgerald in China, Wu Jian Guo described the status of Fitzgerald's research in China for decades. According to the author’s statistics, there have been nearly 1,500 thesis and periodicals on The Great Gatsby since 1980. They discuss the The Great Gatsby from the perspectives of the disillusionment ，of the American dream, the change of the times, racial class, and  theory.   

Liu Si Yu explored the images of the hero Gatsby, the heroine Daisy and Daisy's husband Buchanan. By analyzing the life development track of the hero Gatsby and the historical background and social embodiment of the image of Gatsby, the character image analysis of Daisy and the inner character evolution and Buchanan's character image, the author explained their class status in the society at that time. Through their images, the lost American dream could be seen through, the lack of emotion of the upper class at that time could also be revealed.

Xiang Li explored the images of the three main female characters in The Great Gatsby from the perspective of feminism. The reasons for the emergence of these non-traditional female images were closely related to the society where money was oriented and patriarchy prevailed.

Feminism has always been a hot topic in various studies. In the research of the article, I will also start from this perspective to explore the different voices brought by the "The Great Gatsby" from the perspective of women.

二、国外研究现状

In the 1920s, Fitzgerald published his masterpiece The Great Gatsby. This period was also called a lot of titles，like The age of jazz, the age of youth confusion, the age of new women emerging, the roaring second Ten years.

The 1920s refers to the transition period between the recovery to extreme prosperity after the First World War in 1918 and the Great Depression in 1929. The Great Gatsby published under this special period didn’t get a great response. After the re-author took The Side of Paradise as his representative work on the literary at the time, the author's reputation fell out of favor in the 1930s.Although the author's reputation fell out of favor in 1930s, scholar’s attention has been raised as the development of Fitzgerald revival in 1950s. The United States and the world circle had made significant research on its profound social significance, superb narrative skills, abundant ingenious clever metaphor and the graceful language art, which raised a great mass fervor.

The research results are numerous. For example, in A Life in Letters: A New collection Edited and Anned by Matthew J. Bruccoli, “the latest research of China on The Great Gatsby was combined with some existing research conclusions of foreign studies, and made some new perspectives and different conclusions.”

The Great Gatsby became a classic in the history of American literature in the 1960s, and even the authority of American academia ranked second among the 100 best novels selected in the century of English literature.
