There are various genres in the translation field, Since the 1980s, with the “cultural turn” appearing in translation field, the cultural genre begin to appear. Tan Zaixi believes that translation promotes the birth and development of national culture and plays two main roles in the process of the transformation of national culture: one is to promote cultural exchange and the other is to spread thoughts and opinions. Shen Suru also stated that translation is a cross-linguistic and cross-cultural communication. Eugene A. Nida once pointed out that “translation is the communication between two cultures. For truly successful translating, familiar with the two cultures is even more important than to master two languages”. Translators convert the word from one language to another, in addition to mastery of two languages, they must have a profound cultural background and pay attention to cultural factors in the translation.

Introduction

Language and language symbol serve as the carrier of culture. Culture is so penetrative that cultural factors can be seen in all aspects of language. Translation is using another language to express idea and artistic style of the source and requires very good understanding of the cultures of both the source language and target language. Tan Zaixi states “The understanding of the meaning of the source language in translation is far from mere language comprehension. Language is a part of culture, it is influenced and restricted by culture. In the process of translation, the translator's understanding of a certain text depends largely on his understanding of culture. For a translator, without the contrast knowledge of two cultures, there is no way to correctly understand and express the language.” Eugene A. Nida also states“the role of language within a culture and the influence of the culture on the meanings of words and idioms are so pervasive that can scarcely any text be adequately understood without careful consideration of its cultural background.”There is huge difference between English and Chinese culture or western and oriental culture. So in our translation practice, cultural factors should be taken into consideration and should pay attention to the necessary knowledge of the two cultures involved, avoiding making jokes because lack of cultural connotation.
