一、文献综述

Due to the significance of financial news reports, both Chinese and western scholars used to make researches about such texts, which could be introduced and evaluated as follows. 

Since financial news reports help people gain updated information to help them make wise decisions in business activities, financial news reports are paid much attention in western countries. Hence, large numbers of western scholars used to make investigations about financial news reports. For instance, Thomas Fresco used to publish a book to summarize the language features, pragmatic features and structural features of financial news reports. In his book, Fresco pointed out that the unique features of financial news reports are crucial for both writers, readers and translators of such reports(Fresco, 2008: 45). There is no doubt that such a book is extremely helpful for people who frequently need to read or write financial news reports. Besides, there were some western scholars who provide instructions about various news reports. For instance, Jerry Schwartz used to publish a book to present the features of various news reports. Schwartz pointed out that the sentence patterns in financial news reports needs to be paid more attention because such sentences are long but the structure is normally simple so that the possibility of ambiguity could be avoided. In short, western scholars have made much effort to analyze financial news reports and their studies help readers gain a better understanding of such reports. 

    Similar with western scholars, Chinese made many researches about financial news reports and focused on different issues related with such reports. For instance, some researchers focused on the language features of financial news reports such as Hai Xia, who published a journal to present the characteristics of the vocabularies, sentence patterns and figure of speeches used in such reports. According to Hai, metaphors and analogy are used more frequently than other rhetorical devices in financial news reports(Hai Xia, 2013:11). Besides, some scholars analyzed the cross-cultural awareness of translators of financial news reports such as Chen Ruiling, who analyzed such awareness from the perspective of domestication and foreignization. Chen pointed out that translators of financial news reports need to pay more attention to the metaphors that are used in English only (Chen Ruiling, 2014:109). In addition, some scholars used to analyze the vague expressions in financial news reports. For instance, Wang Yongqi used to publish a journal to analyze the vague expressions used in financial news reports. Wang pointed out that some adjectives and adverbs are frequently used in financial news reports to guarantee the objectiveness of such reports such as “approximately”, “around” and others(Wang Yongqi, 2015:38). There were some Chinese scholars who analyzed the translating strategies applicable for financial news reports. For example, Yang Dan used to publish a journal about the application of Functional Equivalence Theory to the translation of financial news reports. In her research, Yang focused on the static equivalence in the translation of such texts. Yang held the opinion that translators need to guarantee that the understanding capability of target language speakers and their cultural background should be fully considered so that the static equivalence between the source and target text could be guaranteed( Yang Dan, 2016: 79). To be brief, Chinese scholars made great effort to investigate financial news reports and their study provided thorough analysis of such reports and the translation of such texts. However, the researches about the application of Skopos Theory to the translation of financial news reports in New York Times are still limited and that is exactly the major concern of this thesis.
